[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시가 미래 에너지 시장의 핵심인 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 기술 확보에 박차를 가하며 지역 원자력산업의 재도약을 선언했다. 창원 원전기업협의회는 2026년을 '본격적인 산업 확장기'로 규정하고, SMR 기술 개발을 위한 실질적인 협력 강화와 기업 맞춤형 지원에 집중하기로 했다.
창원특례시는 2일 창원컨벤션센터에서 지역 원전기업 대표 30여 명이 참석한 가운데 '2025 창원 원자력 기업협의회 제4차 정기회'를 개최했다.
이번 정기회는 2025년 기업협의회 활동 성과를 공유하고, 다가오는 2026년 창원 지역 원자력 산업이 글로벌 경쟁력을 확보할 구체적인 사업계획을 논의하기 위해 마련됐다.
특히 미래 원전시장의 게임체인저로 꼽히는 ‘소형모듈원자로(SMR)’에 대한 업계의 관심을 반영해, 혁신형소형모듈기술개발사업단 박태철 실장을 초청해 ‘혁신형소형모듈원자로(I-SMR) 기술개발 현황과 미래’를 주제로 특강을 진행했다.
협의회는 2026년을 본격적인 원자력 산업의 확장기로 규정하고, 원전 분야의 전문가와 기업, 연구기관들과의 접촉면을 대폭 늘려 실질적인 기술 협력을 도모하기로 했다. 이를 통해 각 기업이 독보적인 기술 경쟁력 확보로 미래 원전시장을 대비할 수 있도록 맞춤형 지원을 강화한다는 방침이다.
