박 의원은 지난 2일 ‘지역신문발전기금’이 전년 대비 35억 원 증액된 117.5억 원으로 확정된 데 이어, 8일에는 ‘우선지원대상사 평가지표’ 내 지역신문 현실과 맞지 않았던 경영건전성 등 일부 평가 항목의 배점이 조정됐다고 설명했다. 이에 따라 지역 언론사들의 부담이 줄고 보다 폭넓은 지원이 이뤄질 것으로 기대된다.
이번 성과는 박 의원이 국정기획위원회 지역균형성장위원장으로 활동하며 문체부 장관 인사청문회, 국정감사, 예산심사 등 다양한 절차에서 지역언론의 공익적 가치와 지원 필요성을 지속적으로 강조해온 결과라는 평가다. 박 의원은 문체부 및 지역언론과 함께 정책 대안을 마련하며 제도 개선을 추진해왔다.
박 의원은 “지역 언론이야말로 지역을 지키는 공공 플랫폼”이라며 “앞으로도 지역언론의 공익적 가치를 높이고 지원을 강화하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다. 이어 “지역방송과 인터넷 언론을 향한 제도개선도 촘촘히 추진해 ‘지역미디어 환경의 대전환’을 만들어가겠다”고 강조했다.
