이날 준공식에는 이재영 군수, 조윤성 군의장 등을 비롯해 신동리 이장 및 지역 주민들이 참석해 주거주차장 준공을 함께 축하했다.
신동리는 장뜰시장 이용객 증가와 주거 밀집도가 맞물리며 수년간 주차 공간 부족이 반복적으로 제기돼 온 지역이다.
주차 불편으로 인한 시장 이용 감소 우려, 주민 생활환경 저하 등이 지속되면서 주민들의 개선 요구도 꾸준히 이어졌다.
군은 이러한 문제 해결을 위해 2023년 1월부터 올해 12월까지 총 24억 원을 투입해 1172㎡ 부지에 28면 규모의 주거주차장을 조성했다.
특히 군은 주차장을 우선 무료로 개방해 운영 상황을 면밀히 살핀 뒤, 2027년부터는 이용률, 지역 여건, 주민 의견 등을 종합적으로 고려해 단계적 유료화 방안도 검토할 계획이다.
이는 무분별한 장기 주차를 방지하고 효율적인 운영 기반을 마련하기 위한 취지다.
군은 이번 주거주차장 조성으로 주민 편의 증진, 지역 상권 접근성 향상, 주차난 완화 등 실질적인 생활 개선 효과를 기대하고 있다.
군 관계자는 “신동리 주거주차장은 주민 불편 해소 및 정주 여건 개선을 위한 사업”이라며 “앞으로도 안전하고 편리한 생활환경 조성을 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
