경주시는 경북농업기술원 상주감연구소와 협력해 국산 단감 신품종의 시범재배를 확대하고, 본격적인 보급 활성화에 나선다고 17일 밝혔다.
시는 소비자 선호도가 높은 국산 단감 품종의 재배 가능성을 검증하기 위해 지난 11월 ‘감풍’과 ‘스위트폴리’ 묘목 500주를 지역 농가에 공급했다. 이번 사업은 일본 품종 위주로 형성된 국내 단감 재배 구조를 개선하기 위해 추진됐다.
현재 국내 단감 시장은 ‘태추’, ‘부유’ 등 일본 품종의 재배 비중이 높은 상황이다. 반면 이번에 시범 보급된 품종들은 농촌진흥청이 개발한 고당도(16°Bx 이상) 완전단감으로, 맛과 품질 면에서 일본 품종을 충분히 대체할 수 있을 것으로 기대를 모은다.
‘감풍’은 과중이 400g 이상에 달하는 극대과종으로 과육이 단단하고 식미가 뛰어나 상품성이 높다는 평가를 받고 있다. ‘스위트폴리’는 아삭한 식감과 높은 당도가 특징이며, 수분수로도 활용할 수 있어 재배 활용도가 높은 품종이다.
이와 함께 ‘봉황’은 단감에서는 드물게 타원형 과형을 지닌 품종으로, 꼭지들림이나 미세균열 등 생리장해 발생이 적어 재배가 비교적 수월한 것으로 알려졌다.
김정필 경주시농업기술센터장은 “경주 지역의 기후와 토양에 적합한 우수 국산 품종을 선발해 보급하고 있다”며 “현장 중심의 재배 기술 지원을 통해 농가 소득을 높이고, 지역 단감 산업의 경쟁력을 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Currently, the domestic sweet persimmon market is dominated by Japanese varieties such as "Taechu" and "Buyu." In contrast, the varieties being distributed this time are high-sugar (over 16°Bx) perfect sweet persimmons developed by the Rural Development Administration. They are expected to be a worthy replacement for Japanese varieties in terms of taste and quality.
"Gampung" is a large-fruited variety, weighing over 400g. Its firm flesh and excellent flavor are highly regarded for their marketability. "Sweet Polly" is characterized by its crisp texture and high sugar content, and its ability to be used as a pollinator makes it highly versatile for cultivation.
Furthermore, "Bonghwang" is a rare oval-shaped sweet persimmon variety. It is known to be relatively easy to cultivate, as it is less prone to physiological problems such as stem lifting and microcracks.
Kim Jeong-pil, Director of the Gyeongju City Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "We are selecting and distributing excellent domestic varieties suited to the Gyeongju region's climate and soil. Through field-oriented cultivation technology support, we will increase farm income and continuously strengthen the competitiveness of the local sweet persimmon industry."
