파주시가 급증하는 인구와 행정수요에 대응하기 위해 시청사 증축 사업에 본격 착수했다.
파주시는 16일 김경일 시장과 주요 부서장들이 참석한 가운데 '파주시 시청사 증축 타당성조사 및 기본계획 수립용역' 착수보고회를 열고, 청사 증축의 필요성과 추진 방향에 대해 심도 있는 논의를 진행했다고 밝혔다.
파주시는 지난 9월 기자회견을 통해 시청사를 새로운 부지로 이전하는 대신, 현 청사 부지를 활용한 증축 방안을 발표한 바 있다.

김경일 시장은 당시 "효율성과 실용성을 최우선 원칙으로 삼아, 기존 청사를 최대한 활용하면서 꼭 필요한 수준으로 증축하는 것이 최선의 방안"이라고 밝혔다.
