【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=홍준표 전 대구시장 조기 대선 출마를 홍보·지지하는 게시글을 사회관계망서비스(SNS)에 올린 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 정장수 전 대구시 경제부시장에게 검찰이 벌금 200만원을 구형했다.
검찰은 17일 대구지방법원 형사12부 심리로 열린 결심공판에서 공직선거법 위반 혐의로 기소된 정 전 부시장에게 이같은 처벌을 재판부에 요청했다.
정 전 부시장은 지난 1월 29일 자신의 페이스북에 홍 전 시장의 사진과 함께 ‘준비된 대통령, 검증된 대통령’이라는 문구가 담긴 게시물을 올린 혐의를 받고 있다. 해당 게시물에는 국민의힘 정당 로고도 포함돼 있었던 것으로 알려졌다.
검찰은 “공무원 신분임에도 선거법을 위반한 점을 무겁게 봤다”며 “특히 일반인에 비해 비난 가능성이 더 크다”고 밝혔다.
그러면서 “동종 전력이 없는 데다 게시물을 바로 삭제하는 등 사후 조치를 취한 점을 감안했다”고 양형 이유를 설명했다.
정 전 부시장 측은 고의성이 없었다고 주장하며 선처를 요청했다. 변호인은 “선거관리위원회 지적 직후 게시물을 곧바로 삭제하는 등 위법 상태 해소를 위해 노력했다”며 “여론 조작이나 허위사실 유포와는 거리가 있다”고 강조했다.
이어 “내년 지방선거 출마를 고려해 피선거권이 유지될 수 있도록 벌금 100만원 이하의 선처를 부탁드린다”고 밝혔다.
정 전 부시장은 최후진술에서 “공직자로서 법을 위반하게 돼 부끄럽고 죄송하다”고 심경을 전했다. 재판 후 내년 지방선거 출마 여부를 묻는 취재진 질문에는 “아직 고민 중이며, 재판이 진행 중인 만큼 구체적으로 말씀드리기 어렵다”며 말을 아꼈다.
공직선거법상 벌금 100만원 이상의 형이 확정될 경우 5년간 피선거권이 제한된다. 정 전 부시장에 대한 선고 공판은 내년 1월 23일 열린다.

Former Vice Mayor Jeong's side claimed there was no intent and requested leniency. The defense attorney emphasized, "I immediately deleted the post after the National Election Commission pointed it out, and I made efforts to resolve the illegality," adding, "This is far from manipulating public opinion or spreading false information."
He continued, "Considering my intention to run in next year's local elections, I request leniency of a fine of no more than 1 million won so that I can maintain my right to run."
In his final statement, former Vice Mayor Jeong expressed his feelings, saying, "As a public official, I am ashamed and sorry for violating the law." When asked by reporters whether he would run in next year's local elections after the trial, he remained silent, saying, "I am still considering it, and as the trial is ongoing, it is difficult for me to provide specifics."
Under the Public Official Election Act, a sentence of a fine of 1 million won or more stipulates a five-year ban on running for office. Former Vice Mayor Jeong's sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 23rd of next year.
