포항 그린웨이 범시민추진위원회는 포항을 녹색생태도시로 전환하기 위해 추진 중인 그린웨이 프로젝트에 대한 시민 공감대 확산을 목적으로 구성된 시민 참여기구로, 지역 시민사회단체 대표 등 100여 명이 참여하고 있다.
이날 회의에는 이강덕 포항시장과 강석암 그린웨이 범시민추진총괄위원장을 비롯한 위원들이 참석한 가운데, 그린웨이 프로젝트 연말 결산 보고와 유공자 시상, 그린웨이 비전 2030 ‘정원 속의 도시’ 추진 방향 설명 순으로 진행됐다.
포항시는 ‘도시와 자연이 연결된 정원 속의 도시’를 비전으로 ▲숲길과 물길이 이어지는 그린웨이 네트워크 구축 ▲도보 중심의 사람 중심 컴팩트 시티 구현 ▲기후위기 대응을 위한 도시 회복력 강화를 통해 탄소중립 도시 실현에 한 걸음 더 다가선다는 계획이다.
회의에 참석한 위원들은 프로젝트 추진 현황을 공유하고, 포항의 미래 녹색도시 비전에 대한 질의응답과 의견 교환을 이어가며 녹색생태도시 조성에 대한 공감대를 형성했다.
포항시는 올해 지속 가능성을 위한 ICLEI 세계지방정부기후총회와 ICLEI 국제포럼, 세계녹색성장포럼, UN 글로벌혁신허브 S.I.W. 등 주요 국제 행사에 참여해 산업도시에서 녹색도시로 전환 중인 포항의 그린웨이 정책 사례를 소개하며 국내외에서 정책적 위상을 높였다.
이강덕 포항시장은 “그린웨이 프로젝트는 시민과 함께 만들어 온 도시 변화의 과정”이라며 “앞으로도 시민 참여를 바탕으로 걷기 좋은 도시이자 기후위기에 대응하는 녹색도시를 완성해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 포항 그린웨이 프로젝트는 2016년 철길숲 조성을 시작으로 도시 전역으로 확장되며, 걷기 좋은 도시 환경 조성과 기후변화 대응형 녹지 네트워크 구축을 지속해 왔다. 특히 ‘2천만 그루 생명의 나무심기 운동’ 조기 달성과 도시숲 확충은 포항의 도시 이미지와 시민 생활환경을 크게 개선한 성과로 평가받고 있다.
최근 학산천 개통으로 철길숲과 동빈내항, 포항운하, 형산강을 잇는 순환형 녹지축이 완성되면서, 그린웨이 보행 인구 증가에 따른 원도심 활성화 효과도 기대되고 있다.
