이번 시상식은 시군 활력화 운동 평가에서는 지역 특색을 살린 능동적 활동이 돋보인 지자체들이 '자조상(최우수)'을 거머쥐었다. △시 부문은 관광과 수산의 중심지인 통영시와 거제시가 선정되며 해양 도시의 저력을 보였다. △군 부문은 인구 감소 위기를 공동체 의식으로 극복 중인 남해군과 거창군이 나란히 최상위에 이름을 올렸다. △마을공동체 부문은 주민 간의 끈끈한 유대감을 바탕으로 '살기 좋은 마을'의 본보기를 보여준 밀양시가 최우수 영예를 안았다.

박완수 도지사는 축사를 통해 “한 해 동안 지역 곳곳에서 헌신해 온 새마을 가족 여러분의 노력이 경남을 활기차게 만들고 도민을 행복하게 한 가장 큰 원동력”이라며 현장에서 묵묵히 봉사해 온 회원들에게 감사를 전했다.
이어 “산불과 수해 등 어려운 재난 현장에서도 새마을 회원들은 이웃을 돌보며 끝까지 자리를 지켰다”며 “여러분의 땀과 노력이 피해를 입은 도민들에게 용기를 주고, 경남이 위기 속에서 다시 일어설 수 있는 힘이 됐다”고 강조했다.
박 지사는 또 “경남의 새마을운동은 해마다 더 단단해지며 전국 최고 수준으로 평가받고 있다”며 “경남도는 새마을회가 나아가는 방향에 발맞춰 현장의 활동이 지속될 수 있도록 앞으로도 적극 뒷받침하겠다”고 밝혔다.
