파주시가 경기도 유형문화유산인 화석정의 현판 복원 복제 작업을 마무리했다고 최근 밝혔다.
화석정에는 '화석정 중건 상량문'을 포함해 총 7점의 현판이 있다.
그러나 장기간 외부 환경에 노출되면서 채색층 박락과 부재 균열 등 훼손이 심각해져 그동안 혜음원지 수장고에 보관돼 왔다.

시는 조선시대 대학자 율곡 이이의 생애에서 중요한 의미를 지닌 화석정의 관광 활성화를 위해 현판 복원 복제본 제작을 결정하고, 지난 5월부터 용역을 진행했다.
복원 작업은 과학적 분석을 토대로 이뤄졌다.
현판의 수종과 안료를 정밀 분석해 원본과 동일한 나무와 안료를 사용했으며, 문헌 기록과 근대 사진 자료를 참고해 제작 당시의 모습을 최대한 재현했다.
또한 현판의 역사적 의미를 밝히기 위한 인문학적 조사도 병행됐다.

김경일 파주시장은 "율곡문화진흥원, 율곡문화벨트 추진과 함께 율곡 이이 선생과 관련된 문화자원의 보존 관리에도 노력하겠다"고 말했다.
제작에 참여한 무형문화유산 이창석 각자장은 "광화문 현판에 이어 대학자인 율곡의 유산을 다시 새기는 사업에 참여할 수 있어 영광이었다"고 소감을 전했다.
복원 복제된 현판은 당분간 혜음원지 수장고에서 보관되며, 2026년 3월 화석정에 설치돼 방문객에게 공개될 예정이다.

Paju City recently announced the completion of the restoration and reproduction of the signboard at Hwaseokjeong, a tangible cultural heritage site of Gyeonggi Province.
Hwaseokjeong boasts a total of seven signboards, including the "Hwaseokjeong Reconstruction Ridge Inscription."
However, due to prolonged exposure to the elements, the signboards have suffered significant damage, including flaking paint and cracks in the materials. Consequently, they have been stored in the Hyeeumwonji storage facility.
To promote tourism at Hwaseokjeong, a site of significant significance in the life of the Joseon Dynasty scholar Yulgok Yi I, the city decided to produce a replica of the signboard. The project began in May.
