스위스 취리히의 겨울은 늘 비슷한 풍경을 유지한다.
골목에 자리한 작은 쿠키 가게도 해마다 같은 자리에 있다.
여러 차례 이 도시를 방문했지만 지명은 여전히 잘 외워지지 않는다.
특히 스위스식 독일어 발음은 익숙해지는 데 시간이 걸린다.
스트라세는 스트리트를 뜻하지만,
윌리콘인지 웰리콘인지 ‘콘’이 반복되는 지명들은 쉽게 구분되지 않는다.
며칠이 지나서야 겨우 기억에 남는다.
매일 오가던 길조차 시간이 지나면 흐릿해진다.
다시 방문하면 또다시 익혀야 할 것이다.
도시에서의 체류 경험은 반복되지만, 기억은 축적되지 않는다.
스위스의 우체국은 노란색이고 우체통도 노란색이다.
붉은색 우체통이 일반적인 다른 나라들과는 대비된다.
색채 역시 관습의 문제라는 점을 보여준다.
산타클로스가 붉은 옷을 입어야 한다는 인식과 크게 다르지 않다.
안개가 자주 끼고 기온은 낮다. 취리히의 겨울은 화려하지 않다.
다만 일정한 거리감과 차분함을 유지한다.
익숙해지기 어렵고 쉽게 잊히지만, 그 상태 그대로 반복되는 도시다.
Winter in Zurich, Switzerland, remains largely unchanged each year.
A small cookie shop tucked into a side street stays exactly where it has always been.
Despite visiting the city repeatedly, place names rarely stay in memory.
Swiss German pronunciation, in particular, takes time to adjust to. Strasse means street,
but names like Wilikon or Werrikon—places ending with similar sounds—
are easily confused. It often takes several days before they become familiar.
Even routes walked daily tend to fade from memory over time.
On returning the following year, they must be relearned.
Repeated visits do not necessarily lead to accumulated familiarity.
Swiss post offices are yellow, and so are their mailboxes.
This contrasts with the red mailboxes common in many other countries.
Color, too, is shaped by convention.
The assumption that Santa Claus must wear red is not so different.
Fog is frequent, and temperatures are low. Winter in Zurich is not dramatic.
It maintains a certain distance and restraint.
It is a city that is difficult to fully remember, easy to forget,
and yet encountered again in much the same form
スイス・チューリッヒの冬は、毎年ほとんど変わらない。
路地にある小さなクッキー店も、いつも同じ場所にある。
何度訪れても、地名はなかなか記憶に残らない。
特にスイス式ドイツ語の発音には慣れが必要だ。
シュトラーセは通りを意味するが、ウィリコンなのかヴェリコンなのか、
「コン」で終わる地名は区別がつきにくい。
数日経って、ようやく頭に入る。
毎日歩いていた道でさえ、時間が経てば曖昧になる。
翌年に再訪すれば、また覚え直すことになるだろう。
滞在を重ねても、記憶が蓄積されるとは限らない。
スイスの郵便局は黄色で、郵便ポストも黄色だ。
多くの国で一般的な赤色とは対照的である。
色彩もまた、慣習によって決まる。サンタクロースは赤い服を着るものだ、
という認識と大きな違いはない。
霧が出る日が多く、気温は低い。チューリッヒの冬は派手さがない。
ただ、一定の距離感と静けさを保っている。
覚えにくく、忘れやすい。それでも同じ姿で、また訪れることになる都市だ。
