창원단감, ‘문화’를 입고 비상하다

[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 대한민국 단감의 본고장, 창원의 자부심이 이제 단순한 수확의 가치를 넘어 ‘문화’의 영역으로 확장된다. 창원특례시는 30일, 의창구 동읍 단감테마공원 인근에 조성된 ‘단감 복합문화공간’의 현판식을 개최하고 전국 최대 단감 산지의 명성에 걸맞은 문화 거점의 탄생을 알렸다.

본래 이곳은 활용도가 낮아 방치되다시피 했던 시 소유의 노후 건축물이었다. 하지만 2022년 농촌융복합산업지구 조성 공모사업에 선정되면서 반전이 시작됐다. 총 3년에 걸친 기본계획 수립과 증축, 리모델링 과정을 거치며 낡은 건물은 단감 가공·관광·체험 기능을 모두 갖춘 지상 2층 규모의 세련된 공간으로 완전히 탈바꿈했다.
