[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 경상남도 유형문화유산인 '양산 신흥사 석조석가여래삼존좌상 및 복장유물'이 국가지정유산 보물로 2025년 12월 31일 지정 예고 됐다.
양산 신흥사 석조석가여래삼존좌상 및 복장유물은 1682년 수조각승 승호를 필두로 수연, 보장, 인원, 처행, 법종 등 당대 최고의 조각승들이 힘을 합쳐 완성한 작품이다.
특히 이 불상은 17세기 후반 경상도 지역에서 크게 유행했던 불석을 재료로 사용한 것이 특징이다.
승호는 불석을 다루는 데 탁월한 능력을 갖춘 인물로, 이번 삼존좌상은 그가 양산 신흥사 대광전에 봉안하기 위해 제작한 불석제 불상 중 가장 이른 시기의 사례로 꼽혀 미술사적 가치가 매우 높다.
삼존상은 본존인 석가여래좌상을 중심으로 좌우에 협시보살이 배치된 '영산회 삼존'형식을 취하고 있는데 이러한 구성은 우협시 보살좌상에서 발견된 조성 발원문을 통해 명확히 확인됐다.

특히 조성 발원문은 제작 연대와 제작자, 봉안처를 명확히 기록하고 있으며, 1387년 제작된 반야바라밀경을 비롯한 불설아미타경, 묘법연화경 등 고려 후기부터 조선 전기에 이르는 귀중한 전적들이 포함됐다.
또 후령통, 황초폭자, 오보병 등 17세기 후반 복장 납입 의식의 원형을 보여주는 유물들이 일괄 포함되어 역사적 완성도를 높였다.
이번 보물 지정 예고는 관보 공고일로부터 30일 이상 예고 기간을 거치게 된다.
양산시는 이 기간동안 국가유산청과 긴밀히 협력하여 각계의 의견을 수렴하고, 이후 문화유산위원회의 심의를 거쳐 최종 지정을 확정할 예정이다.
양산시 관계자는 “340여 년간 원봉안처인 신흥사 대광전을 지켜온 소중한 문화유산이 그 가치를 인정받게 되어 매우 뜻깊다”며 “보물 승격에 따른 행정 절차를 차질 없이 마무리하고, 앞으로도 관내 문화유산에 대한 체계적인 보존·관리와 활용에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
