파주시가 운정중앙역 일대를 수도권 문화 거점으로 육성하기 위한 대규모 문화공연 콤플렉스 조성에 본격 나섰다.
파주시는 지난 12일 시청 접견실에서 김경일 시장을 비롯해 관련 분야 전문가, 파주문화재단 관계자 등 15여 명이 참석한 가운데 '운정중앙역 문화공연 콤플렉스 조성 타당성 조사 및 기본계획 수립 용역' 중간보고회를 개최했다고 13일 밝혔다.

이번 보고회에서는 '뮤지컬 주목적 전문 공연장'을 주제로 대공연장과 소공연장, 전시·체험·커뮤니티 기능을 갖춘 복합문화시설 배치 계획이 집중 논의됐다.
시가 구상하고 있는 문화공연 콤플렉스는 2,000석 규모의 대공연장을 중심으로 300석의 가변형 다목적 공연장, 그리고 시민들에게 상시 개방되는 문화·편의 공간까지 다양하게 구성된다.
대공연장은 대형 공연과 콘서트 유치가 가능한 규모로 계획돼 지역 문화 수준 향상은 물론 수도권 문화 거점으로서의 역할을 수행할 것으로 기대된다.
참석자들은 기본계획안에 대해 전반적으로 공감을 표하면서도 이용객 편의를 위한 부대시설의 충분한 확보와 향후 운영계획을 더욱 현실적이고 구체적으로 보완해 줄 것을 주문했다.
시는 이번 중간보고회에서 제기된 의견을 바탕으로 주요 및 부대시설에 대한 세부 공간계획, 구체적인 운영 방식, 예상 사업비에 대한 타당성 분석, 재원 조달 방안 등을 더욱 구체화해 실현 가능성이 높은 기본계획을 마련할 방침이다.
김경일 파주시장은 "이번 중간보고회에서 제시된 의견과 주문사항을 면밀히 검토해 기본계획에 적극 반영하겠다"며 "시민들의 문화 향유 기회를 확대하기 위한 사업의 취지를 극대화할 수 있기를 기대한다"고 밝혔다.
