이재명 대통령이 13일(현지시간) 한·일 정상회담에서 "복잡하고 어지러운 국제 질서 속 새로운 더 나은 상황을 향해 나아가야 하기에 한·일 간 협력 관계는 그 어느 때 어떤 것보다 중요하다 생각한다”고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 일본 나라현 회담장에서 다카이치 사나에 일본 총리와 가진 회담 모두 발언에서 “상황은 복잡하고 어렵고 불편한 부분도 있으나 편하고 좋은 측면들도 혼재하기 마련”이라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 “그런 상황에선 좋은 점들을 더 발굴해 키우고 불편하거나 나쁜 점들을 잘 관리해 최소화하면서 더 나은 미래를 향해 손 꼭 잡고 함께 가면 더 나은 미래를 확실하게 만들 수 있다고 믿는다”고 했다.
또 “한·일 교류·협력이 어느 때보다도 중요한 때이기에 나라에서 회담을 갖게 된 건 정말 각별한 의미가 있다”며 “우리가 한때 아픈 과거 경험을 갖고 있기는 하나 한·일 국교 정상화가 된 지도 환갑·육십이 지났고, 다시 또 새 60년을 시작하게 됐다는 점에서 총리님 말씀처럼 이 회담은 각별한 의미가 있다”고 했다.
이어 “전후 한·일은 괄목할 만한 성장과 발전을 이뤄냈는데 그 성장 발전 과정에서 한국은 일본에, 일본은 한국에 크나큰 힘이 되었다는 건 부인 못할 사실”이라고 했다.
다카이치 총리는 "이재명 대통령 방일을 시작으로 일·한 관계를 한층 높은 차원으로 발전시키는 한 해로 만들고 싶다"며 "올해 셔틀 외교 첫 기회에 대통령·한국 대표단 여러분을 제 고향 이곳 나라에 모실 수있게 됐으며 환영한다"고 밝혔다.
그러면서 "조금 전 대통령과 일·한 관계 전략적 중요성에 대한 공통 인식 하에 심도있는 논의를 가질 수 있었다"며 "대통령과 함께 일·한 관계를 전진시키면서 양국이 지역 안정을 위해 공정한 역할을 다해 나가야 한다는 생각을 다시금 다졌다"고 했다.
또 "대통령이 앞으로의 60년이란 말을 했는데 양측이 국교 정상화 60주년이었던 작년 일·한 관계 강인함을 지속 보여줄 수 있었던 걸 대단히 기쁘게 생각한다"며 "오늘 논의를 기대하고 있다"고 밝혔다.
