(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 부평구가 지난 20일 구청에서 (가칭)산곡-청소년특화도서관 건립을 위한 기부채납 업무협약식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.
부평구에 따르면, 3자 간 협약으로 진행된 이날 협약식에는 차준택 구청장과 기중현 ㈜힐링웨이 대표, 김기찬 산곡재개발조합장 등이 참여했다.
협약에 따라 기부자는 도서관을 건축하고 부평구는 행정적 지원을, 재개발조합은 도서관 부지를 무상으로 제공한다.
도서관은 산곡동 91-60번지 일원에 지하 1층~지상 3층 규모로 조성되며, 유아·어린이·청소년 전용공간과 종합자료실, 다목적실 등을 갖춘 청소년 특화 복합문화공간으로 조성될 예정이다.
부평구는 향후 관련 행정절차를 거쳐 2027년 1월 착공, 2028년 10월 개관을 목표로 사업을 추진할 계획이다.
이번 사업은 기중현 대표가 해당 부지에 도서관을 건립한 뒤 부평구에 기부채납하겠다는 의사를 밝히면서 성사됐다.
개인이 공공시설을 직접 건립해 기부채납하는 이례적인 사례로 평가받고 있다.
기중현 대표는 청소년의 성장지원과 장애인 돌봄시설 후원 등 다양한 분야에서 나눔을 실천 해오고 있다.
이 같은 공로를 인정받아 2025년 제14회 대한민국 나눔국민대상에서 대통령표창을 수상한 바 있다.
현재는 고액기부자 모임인 ‘아너 소사이어티’ 회원으로 활동하며 지속적인 사회공헌을 이어가고 있다.
기중현 대표는 “우리나라 미래의 주역인 청소년들이 자신의 꿈을 꾸고 설계할 수 있는 공간이 부족하다는 생각에 이번 기부를 결정하게 됐다”며 “재개발로 변화될 장소에 들어서게 될 산곡-청소년특화도서관이 청소년들의 미래를 밝히는 등대 역할을 하길 바란다”고 전했다.
