파주시는 지난 20일 임동권 파주시의사회장을 제52대 파주시 일일명예시장으로 위촉했다고 밝혔다.
야당동에서 센트럴제일안과의원을 운영 중인 임동권 명예시장은 2018년 3월부터 파주시의사회 회장직을 수행하며 지역 의료계를 이끌어왔다.

그는 국내외 16개국에서 의료 및 교육 봉사활동을 펼친 공로를 인정받아 2022년 보령의료봉사상 대상을 수상한 바 있으며, 의료 사각지대 해소와 나눔 실천에 앞장서 온 것으로 알려졌다.
파주북부 지역 발전에 깊은 관심을 가진 임 명예시장은 이날 월 방문객 3만 명이 찾는 문산도서관을 방문해 업무 추진 현황 보고를 받고 시설을 둘러봤다.
문산도서관은 무장애 설계와 이용자 중심의 공간 조성으로 전 연령층이 이용 가능한 '머물고 싶은 공간'으로 평가받으며 파주북부 거점 도서관 역할을 수행하고 있다.

이어 운정보건소와 운정다누림노인복지관을 방문해 취약계층 대상 보건·복지 사업 추진 현황을 점검했다.
임 명예시장은 어르신과 취약계층의 이용 편의를 고려한 공간 조성과 함께 '살던 곳에서의 돌봄'의 중요성을 강조했다.
마지막으로 동패동·서패동 일대 메디컬클러스터 조성 예정지를 방문해 사업 부지를 살펴봤다.
메디컬클러스터는 종합병원과 바이오 융복합단지 부지 등을 포함한 대규모 도시개발 사업으로, 100만 자족도시 파주 조성의 핵심 프로젝트로 추진되고 있다.
임동권 일일명예시장은 "앞으로도 지역사회와 취약계층을 위한 의료인의 역할을 고민하며 시정에 적극 참여해 시민의 삶의 질 향상에 기여하겠다"고 밝혔다.
