고양특례시가 오는 2월 6일 개막하는 '2026 밀라노-코르티나 동계올림픽'에 출전하는 고양시청 빙상팀 임종언 선수를 위한 대대적인 응원에 나섰다.
이번 대회는 전 세계 93개국 3,500여 명의 선수단이 참가해 16개 종목 116개 경기를 치르는 세계적인 스포츠 축제다.
고양시청 소속으로 출전하는 임종언 선수는 지난해 4월 국가대표 선발전에서 종합 1위를 차지하며 대한민국 쇼트트랙의 차세대 에이스로 부상했다.

시는 임 선수의 뛰어난 잠재력을 인정해 지난해 12월 18일 전격 영입했다.
당시 이동환 고양특례시장이 직접 유니폼을 전달하며 새로운 도전에 대한 전폭적인 지원을 약속했다.
임 선수는 이번 올림픽에서 혼성 2000m 계주를 시작으로 남자 1000m, 1500m, 500m, 5000m 계주까지 총 5개 종목에 출전한다.

응원단은 임 선수의 주력 종목인 개인전 경기장을 직접 찾아 108만 고양시민의 염원을 전하며 집중 응원전을 펼칠 계획이다.

시는 시청 본관 정면, 아람누리도서관, 어울림빙상장 등 주요 거점 3곳에 임 선수의 선전을 기원하는 대형 응원 현수막을 설치했다.
