【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=외국인 밀집 지역의 갈등을 협력으로 전환하기 위한 안전공동체(SAFE COMMUNITY) 봉사대 발대식이 지난 25일 음성군외국인지원센터에서 열렸다.
안전공동체 봉사대는 외국인 주민과 내국인 간 생활환경, 문화, 법질서 인식 차이에서 비롯되는 갈등을 예방하고 지역 안전의 주체로 참여하는 자발적 봉사 조직으로, 필리핀, 방글라데시, 베트남, 네팔, 캄보디아 등 음성군에 거주하는 다양한 국적의 외국인 주민 30명으로 구성됐다.
단속이나 민원 대응 중심의 기존 방식에서 벗어나 지자체·경찰·외국인지원센터가 협력체계를 구축해 지속 가능한 지역 안전 모델을 마련하는 데 목적이 있다.
이날 발대식에는 조병옥 음성군수와 음성경찰서 관계자, 외국인 봉사대원 등 30여 명이 참석했다.
봉사대는 앞으로 외국인 밀집 지역 환경정비, 범죄예방·생활안전 홍보, 법질서 안내, 갈등 조정 연계, 다문화 이해 캠페인 등을 추진하고, 농번기에는 농촌 일손 돕기 봉사활동도 병행할 계획이다.
박한교 음성군외국인지원센터장은 “외국인 주민은 보호의 대상이 아니라 지역을 함께 지키는 동반자”라며 “봉사대 활동을 통해 신뢰를 쌓고, 모두가 안심하고 함께 살아갈 수 있는 음성군을 만들어 가겠다”고 말했다.
봉사대에 참여한 한 외국인 주민도 “도움을 받던 입장에서 지역을 위해 봉사할 수 있어 뜻깊다”며 “외국인도 책임 있는 지역 구성원임을 행동으로 보여주고 싶다”고 밝혔다.
한편 군은 안전공동체 봉사대가 정기 봉사활동과 농촌 지원을 통해 외국인 밀집 지역의 생활 갈등을 완화하고 지역 공동체 통합에 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.
