[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 지난해 12월 개최한 2025 세계도핑방지기구(WADA) 총회가 약 116억 원의 경제적 파급효과를 지역에 가져온 것으로 나타났다.
27일 오전 파라다이스 부산 호텔에서 열린 2025 세계도핑방지기구(WADA) 총회 성과보고회에는 시 체육국장과 문화체육관광부, 한국도핑방지위원회(KADA), 벡스코 등 주요 기관 관계자 40여 명이 참석했다.
이날 보고회에서는 지난해 개최된 총회의 구체적인 성과와 지역 경제 효과 분석 결과가 발표됐다. 시는 이번 총회를 계기로 부산이 공정하고 깨끗한 스포츠 도시로서 글로벌 위상을 한층 높였다고 평가했다.
부산연구원(BDI)의 분석에 따르면 지난해 12월 1일부터 5일까지 벡스코 일원에서 열린 총회는 생산유발효과 79억 원, 부가가치유발효과 37억 원, 고용유발 44명, 취업유발 63명 등 총 116억 원의 경제효과를 거둔 것으로 추정됐다.
총회 참석자를 대상으로 한 만족도 조사에서는 총회 전반 만족도 92.8%, 개최지 부산 만족도 90.7%로 조사돼, 교통·숙박·환경 등 전반에 걸쳐 부산이 글로벌 MICE 도시로서의 경쟁력을 다시 한번 입증했다.
이번 총회에서는 세계도핑방지규약(WADA Code)과 국제표준(International Standards) 개정안이 확정되고, 국제사회의 반도핑 의지를 담은 부산선언(Busan Declaration)이 공식 채택됐다. 부산선언은 공정 경기가치 수호, 국가 간 협력 확대, 선수 인권 보호 등의 핵심 내용을 담고 있으며, 부산이 도핑 없는 공정한 스포츠 시대를 이끄는 글로벌 스포츠 외교의 중심지로 도약할 기반을 마련했다.

부산시는 이번 총회를 통해 형성된 국제스포츠 협력 네트워크를 바탕으로 2026 부산국제마라톤대회 등 글로벌 메가스포츠 대회 유치에 나설 예정이다. 또한 세계도핑방지기구(WADA)와 한국도핑방지위원회(KADA) 선수 위원이 함께하는 아시아 청소년 클린스포츠 캠프 등 총회 유산 사업을 추진해 지역 스포츠 산업 전반으로 성과를 확산시킬 계획이다.
박형준 부산시장은 “이번 총회를 계기로 시민이 체감할 수 있는 실질적 경제 효과를 확인했다”며 “부산이 공정하고 깨끗한 스포츠 새 시대의 중심에서 생활체육 천국이자 클린스포츠 허브도시로 다시 도약할 것”이라고 말했다.

BUSAN, South Korea (Jan. 27, 2026) — The city of Busan announced that the 2025 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Conference, held last December, generated an estimated economic impact of 11.6 billion won, or about 8.7 million U.S. dollars.
A briefing was held Tuesday at Paradise Hotel Busan with about 40 representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Anti-Doping Agency (KADA), BEXCO, and the city’s sports department. During the session, the city presented detailed results on the event’s economic and international achievements. Officials said the event strengthened Busan’s position as a global city promoting fair and clean sports.
According to a study by the Busan Development Institute (BDI), the five-day conference, held from Dec. 1 to 5 at BEXCO, produced 7.9 billion won in production inducement, 3.7 billion won in added value, and created 44 jobs with an additional 63 employment opportunities, totaling an estimated 11.6 billion won in economic impact.
A satisfaction survey found that 92.8 percent of participants gave positive feedback about the overall conference, while 90.7 percent rated Busan favorably as the host city. The results reaffirm the city’s competitiveness as a leading MICE destination with strong infrastructure in transportation, accommodation, and environmental quality.
The 2025 conference concluded with the adoption of the “Busan Declaration,” which outlines the global commitment to fair play, international cooperation, and the protection of athletes’ rights. It also confirmed revisions to the WADA Code and International Standards that will take effect in 2027, marking an important milestone in international anti-doping policy. City officials said the declaration laid a foundation for Busan to become a central hub in global sports diplomacy and integrity.
Building on networks formed during the conference, Busan plans to attract more international sports events, including the 2026 Busan International Marathon. The city also intends to launch the Asian Youth Clean Sports Camp, a legacy program inviting young athletes from developing countries with support from WADA and KADA athlete committees.
“The WADA Conference brought tangible economic benefits that citizens can experience,” Mayor Park Heong-joon said. “Busan will continue to host global sports events and grow as both the city of everyday sports and the global clean sports hub.”
