이재명 대통령이 19일(현지시간) "한·인도는 서로에 가장 중요한 전략 파트너가 될 것”이라고 했다.
이 대통령은 이날 저녁 인도 방문 첫 일정으로 뉴델리 시내 한 호텔에서 열린 현지 동포 만찬 간담회 모두 발언에서 "20일 나렌드라 모디 인도 총리와의 정상회담 계기로 양국 관계는 지금과는 완전 다른 차원으로 발전 가능성이 매우 높다"며 이같이 말했다,
그러면서 “인도는 단순 소비시장 아닌 글로벌 생산·공급망을 이끄는 핵심 국가가 됐다”며 “또 한국과 비슷하게 원자재·에너지를 상당 부분 해외에 의존하고 있다는 점에서 협력 여지가 상당히 많을 것”이라고 했다.
또 "(인도는) 세계 4위 경제대국인데 거기 비하면 대한민국과의 경제협력 수준은 정말 매우 낮은 것 같다"며 "앞으로 그 영역을 좀 더 확대하고 한·인도 관계를 지금과는 완전 다르게 만들어보겠다"고 했다.
이어 "1973년 수교한 한·인도는 정치·경제·문화 등 다양한 분야 협력을 확대해 왔으며 2015년 특별 전략적 동반자 관계 수립 이후 양국 관계가 상당 정도 발전해 오고 있다"며 "그러나 그렇게 크게 확장되지 못했다"고 했다.
더불어 "조금 전 인도 외교장관과 얘기했고, 내일 모디 총리와 대화하게 되겠지만 인도 당국 역시 한·인도 관계가 정체돼 충분히 만족스럽지 못하다는 점에 공감했다"며 "인도가 가진 큰 잠재력 대비 한·인도 협력 수준이 낮다는데 인도 당국도 동의한다"고 덧붙였다.
