[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시 화포천습지 과학관과 생태학습관 일원에서 지난달 30일부터 2월 1일까지 개최된 ‘화포천습지 독수리축제’ 시민 및 방문객 1천 여명이 다녀가며 큰 호응을 얻었다.
이번 축제는 람사르습지도시의 핵심이자 국가습지보호지역인 화포천습지의 생태적 가치를 알리고, 겨울철 화포천을 찾는 독수리 등 철새들의 안정적인 월동을 지원하기 위해 기획됐다.
김해시가 주최하고 효성그룹이 함께한 이번 행사는 다채로운 프로그램으로 꾸며졌다.
특히 사전 예약 단계부터 조기 마감되며 큰 기대를 모았던 ▲독수리 먹이주기 체험과 ▲겨울철새 탐조 프로그램은 참가자들에게 자연의 경이로움을 직접 체감하는 특별한 경험을 선사했다.
이외에도 현장에서는 ▲독수리 만들기 체험부스 ▲독수리 그리기 대회 ▲독수리 소리 흉내내기 ▲독수리 사진전 등 오감을 만족시키는 체험 프로그램이 운영되어 축제 기간 내내 활기찬 분위기가 이어졌다.
또한 효성그룹 임직원들이 참여한 생물다양성 보전 활동은 기업과 지역사회가 협력해 멸종위기 야생동물을 보호한다는 점에서 그 의미를 더했다.
축제의 성공 배경에는 김해시의 꾸준한 노력이 자리 잡고 있다.
시는 겨울철 매주 수요일과 토요일, 과학관 및 학습관 일원에서 ‘독수리 먹이주기 및 탐조 프로그램’을 정례적으로 운영하고 있다.
이 프로그램에 대한 시민들의 관심이 해가 거듭될수록 높아짐에 따라, 화포천을 찾아오는 독수리의 개체수 또한 매년 눈에 띄게 늘어나며 화포천습지가 독수리의 주요 월동지로 완전히 자리 잡았다는 평가다.
