【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시 최초 3선 시장인 이강덕 포항시장이 7일 자서전 ‘뜨거운 열정은 강철도 녹인다’ 출판기념회를 열고 지난 12년간의 시정 성과와 향후 정치적 비전을 밝혔다.
이날 오후 2시 포항문화예술회관 대공연장에서 열린 출판기념회에는 주최 측 추산 7천~8천여 명의 시민과 지지자들이 참석해 대성황을 이뤘다. 특히 행사 시작 전부터 대규모 인파가 몰리며 현장은 뜨거운 열기로 가득 찼다.

행사장에는 이상휘 국회의원(포항 남·울릉), 서천호 국회의원(경남 사천·남해·하동), 박명재·강석호 전 국회의원 등 지역 정치권과 학계 인사들이 대거 참석해 이 시장의 출판을 축하했다.
출판기념회는 주요 인사들의 축사를 시작으로 이명박 전 대통령의 영상 축하 메시지, 가족 및 시민대표의 헌정식, 이강덕 시장의 인사말과 북 토크 콘서트 순으로 진행됐다.

이강덕 시장은 인사말에서 “포항을 위한 12년간의 봉사는 제 인생의 가장 큰 행복이었다”며 “40여 년간 현장 행정을 통해 쌓은 경험을 바탕으로 더 큰 경북과 대한민국을 실현하는 데 역할을 하고 싶다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “익숙한 포구의 불빛을 뒤로하고 더 넓은 대지를 향해 첫걸음을 내딛는다”며 향후 행보에 대한 의지를 드러냈다.
이번 자서전에는 민선 6기부터 8기까지 12년, 4천240일 동안 포항 시정을 이끌며 겪은 도전과 성과가 담겼다. 메르스 사태와 포항지진, 코로나19, 태풍과 산불 등 각종 재난을 시민들과 함께 극복한 과정과 함께 철강산업 고도화, 신성장 산업 육성, AI 데이터센터 구축, 국제전시컨벤션센터 조성, 철길숲과 생태하천 복원 등 도시 경쟁력 강화 성과가 주요 내용으로 소개됐다.
이 시장은 “이 책은 개인의 기록이 아니라 시민과 공직자들이 함께 써 내려간 이야기”라며 “포항의 변화와 성장은 시민들의 믿음과 헌신 덕분”이라고 강조했다.

한편 이번 출판기념회는 이강덕 시장이 경북도지사 출마를 공식화한 이후 처음 열린 대규모 행사로, 포항을 넘어 경북 전역으로 정치적 무대를 확장하려는 의지가 분명히 드러났다는 평가다. 대규모 인파와 지역 정치권의 집결은 그의 향후 행보에 힘을 실어주는 계기가 됐다는 분석도 나온다.

After graduating from the first class of the National Police University, he served as the Chief of the Pohang Southern Police Station, Deputy Chief of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency, Chief of the Busan, Gyeonggi, and Seoul Provincial Police Agency, and the 12th Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard. Afterwards, he was elected as the Mayor of Pohang in the 6th, 7th, and 8th popular elections, and is currently serving as the first three-term mayor of Pohang City.
