9일 경주시에 따르면 지난 7일 오후 9시 52분쯤 문무대왕면 입천리 산20 일원에서 산불이 발생했다. 불은 인근 철탑의 전기적 요인으로 발생한 것으로 추정되며, 정확한 원인은 관계기관이 조사 중이다.
산불 발생 직후 경주시와 산림 당국은 현장 대응에 나섰다. 문무대왕면 직원들이 현장을 확인한 뒤 산림재난대응단이 투입됐고, 같은 날 오후 10시 11분쯤 인근 주민 대피가 이뤄졌다. 이후 안전 안내 문자와 재난 문자가 순차적으로 발송됐다.
경주시는 행정복지센터에 지휘본부를 설치하고 산림청, 소방, 경찰, 해병대 등 관계기관과 공조해 진화 작업을 벌였다. 현장에는 산불진화헬기 20대를 비롯해 진화대와 공무원, 소방·경찰 인력 등 500여 명이 투입됐고, 진화 차량과 소방 장비도 동원됐다.
산불은 진화율이 오르내리며 확산과 진정을 반복하다 8일 오후 6시쯤 주불이 잡혔다. 이후 잔불 정리 과정에서 일부 속불이 발생했으나 추가 인력과 장비를 투입해 확산을 차단했다.
현재까지 인명 피해는 없는 것으로 파악됐다. 산림 피해 면적은 약 53㏊로 추정된다. 주민 대피 인원은 한때 34명에 달했으며, 이들은 경로당과 마을회관 등으로 분산 대피했다.
경주시는 대피 주민들을 위해 일시구호세트 80개를 배부하고 현장에 응급의료소를 설치했다. 시는 잔불 감시와 재발 방지에 집중하는 한편, 피해 복구와 화재 원인 조사에 나설 방침이다.
