[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 평생을 소외된 이웃을 위해 헌신하며 ‘빈민의 멋’이라 불린 故 제정구 선생(1944~1999)의 27주기 추모식이 지난 7일 고성군 대가면 제정구 커뮤니티센터에서 엄숙히 거행됐다.
‘아름다운 사람, 제정구 기념사업회’(이하 기념사업회)가 주관한 이번 추모식에는 유가족을 비롯해 이상근 고성군수, 허동원 도의원, 고성군의회 의원, 지역단체 관계자 및 추모객 70여 명이 참석해 고인의 숭고한 생애를 기렸다.
최재호 기념사업회장은 기념사를 통해 “누구나 생각은 할 수 있지만 아무나 실천할 수 없는 길을 걸어가신 제정구 선생님을 추모하며, 그 삶을 닮아가기 위해 우리 모두가 함께 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 경남 고성군 출신인 제정구 선생은 1970년~80년대 청계천과 양평동 등지에서 빈민 구제 활동에 전념했으며, 1986년 ‘아시아의 노벨상’으로 불기는 막사이사이상을 수상하며 국제적으로 그 공로를 인정받았다.
이후 정계에 입문해 깨끗한 정치 실현을 위해 헌신하다 1999년 2월 9일 향년 55세를 일기로 타계했다.
현재 제정구 선생의 고향인 고성군에는 그의 철학을 전파하는 제정구 커뮤니티센터가 건립되어 고인의 ‘상생과 나눔’ 정신을 지역사회에 확산시키는 거점 역할을 하고 있다.

Meanwhile, Jeong-gu Jeong, a native of Goseong County, South Gyeongsang Province, dedicated himself to relief work in areas like Cheonggyecheon and Yangpyeong-dong during the 1970s and 1980s. His contributions were recognized internationally in 1986 when he received the Magsaysay Award, often called the "Nobel Prize of Asia."
He later entered politics and dedicated himself to promoting clean politics until his death at the age of 55 on February 9, 1999.
Currently, the Jeong-gu Jeong Community Center has been established in Goseong County, his hometown, to spread his philosophy and serve as a hub for spreading his spirit of "coexistence and sharing" throughout the local community.
