[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 하동군은 국립수산과학원 산하 ‘국립양식사료연구소’가 지난 9일 착공했고 밝혔다.
‘국립양식사료연구소’는 수산 사료의 품질·안전성 강화와 수요자 중심의 어류 사료 개발을 위한 국가 연구 기관으로 국내 양식산업의 기술 경쟁력 확보를 목표로 건립된다.
연구소가 완공되면 △수입 의존도가 높은 사료 원료의 국산화 연구 △지역 양식어가 대상 현장 맞춤형 사료 연구 및 기술지원 등이 가능해질 전망이다.
이를 통해 사료비 절감과 생산성 향상 등 어업인의 실질적인 소득을 높일 뿐만 아니라, 하동군이 친환경 양식산업의 메카로 도약 할 발판을 마련할 것으로 기대된다.
연구소 건립을 위해 총사업비 144억원이 투입될 예정이며 사업 부지는 2만㎡에 건축면적 2900㎡이다.
특히 이번 입주는 대송산업단지에 들어서는 첫 번째 정부 공공 연구시설이라는 점에서 그 의미가 크다.
이를 위해 하동군은 24년 분양 계약을 체결하고 지속적인 협의를 통해 관련 예산을 확보하는 등 노력을 기울여 왔다.
하동군은 이를 계기로 대송산단이 단순 제조 중심에서 연구·기술·기반 산업이 융합된 고도화 산업단지로 체질을 개선하는 중요한 전환점이 될 것으로 보고 있다.
군 관계자는 “하동군도 숭어·넙치 등 양식어업 비중이 높은 만큼 국립양식사료연구소는 우리 군이 수산 연구 및 사업의 핵심 거점으로 도약하는 마중물이 될 것”이라며 “기회발전특구로 지정된 대송산단에 연구소를 시작으로 관련 기업들이 본격적으로 입주할 수 있도록 행정력을 집중하겠다”고 밝혔다.
