[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 이재명 대통령이 ‘가짜 뉴스’라고 지적한 국내 부자 유출 통계에 대해 국세청이 별도 자료를 공개하면서 법 위반 논란이 일고 있다.
박수영 국민의힘 의원은 9일 “이재명 정권의 '좌표 찍기'와 '입틀막'이 법을 짓뭉개는 독재 국가 수준"이라며 "국세청의 조치가 국세기본법과 개인정보보호법을 위반했을 가능성이 있다”고 주장했다.
앞서 대한상공회의소가 인용한 영국 이민컨설팅 업체 헨리앤파트너스의 자료에 따르면, 지난해 한국인 백만장자 순유출 규모는 2400명으로 나타났다. 이 대통령은 이 수치를 ‘가짜 뉴스’로 규정했고, 임광현 국세청장은 이에 대응해 최근 3년간 해외 이민자 8713명의 자산 내역을 분석한 자료를 8일 공개했다.
박 의원은 “국세기본법 제81조의13은 과세정보를 타인에게 제공하거나 목적 외로 사용하는 것을 금지하고 있다”며 “대통령의 지시나 ‘가짜 뉴스’ 해명은 예외에 해당하지 않는다”고 밝혔다. 그는 또 “국세청이 비공식 신규 통계를 생산해 SNS와 보도자료로 공개한 것은 개인정보보호법 제59조 3호 위반 소지가 있다”고 지적했다.
박 의원은 정부의 대응 방식에 대해서도 비판했다. 그는 “대통령의 발언 하나에 경제부총리, 산업부 장관, 국세청장이 나서 민간 기관 보고서를 비판하고 대한상의에 감사까지 벌이는 것은 과도하다”며 “이런 분위기에서는 언론과 기관이 자유롭게 보고서를 내기 어렵다”고 말했다.
박 의원은 “과세정보는 국민의 사생활과 재산을 가장 깊이 파악할 수 있는 민감한 내용으로, 정치적 활용은 절대 금해야 한다”고 강조했다.

South Korea’s tax agency is facing allegations of breaching domestic laws after it published new data on emigrants’ wealth following President Lee Jae-myung’s criticism of a foreign report as “fake news.”
People Power Party lawmaker Park Soo-young said on the 10th, “The Lee Jae-myung administration’s ‘targeting and silencing’ tactics are at the level of a dictatorial state that tramples on the law,” and claimed that “the National Tax Service’s actions may have violated the Framework Act on National Taxes and the Personal Information Protection Act.”
Last week, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry cited a study by U.K.-based migration consultancy Henley & Partners estimating that about 2,400 millionaires left South Korea in 2024. President Lee called the figures “fake news,” prompting NTS Commissioner Lim Gwang-hyun to release new statistics intended to counter the claim.
“The tax law bans the use or disclosure of tax information for non-tax purposes, and the president’s directive is not among the exceptions,” Park said in a Facebook post. He also claimed the NTS’ social media disclosure of new statistics “may constitute an unauthorized use of personal information.”
Park further criticized what he described as “an excessive government-wide response,” arguing that officials—including the deputy prime minister and the industry minister—appeared to compete in defending the president’s position. “Such actions could have a chilling effect on free expression and independent research,” he said.
Park added that tax data are “highly sensitive information related to privacy and property” and should never be used for political purposes.
