브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 박지원 더불어민주당 의원은 11일 유시민 작가와 방송인 김어준씨 등 이른바 ‘강성 지지층 인사’들이 당에 과도한 영향력을 행사한다는 일각의 비판에 대해 “민주당은 특정인의 발언에 휘둘리지 않는 정통 있는 정당”이라고 반박했다.
박 의원은 이날 YTN라디오 ‘김영수의 더 인터뷰’에 출연해 조국혁신당과의 통합 논의를 두고 유 작가와 김씨가 통합을 지지하며 정청래 의원을 지원 사격한 것을 언급하며 “다양한 의견이 제기되고 이를 둘러싼 비판이 존재하는 것 자체가 민주 정당의 모습”이라고 말했다.
진행자가 “이들이 단순한 평론가가 아니라 민주당 지지층에 상당한 영향력을 가진 인사들 아니냐”고 묻자, 박 의원은 “결국 통하지 않았다”며 “자신의 의견을 분명히 밝히는 것은 자유지만, 민주당이 거기에 좌지우지된다면 건전한 정당이라고 볼 수 없다”고 선을 그었다.
그는 특히 “이들의 발언에도 불구하고 합당 논의 중단 결정을 내린 것이 오히려 민주당의 강점”이라며 “민주당은 특정인에 좌우되지 않는다”고 강조했다.
오는 8월 전당대회를 앞두고 김민석 국무총리가 정청래 의원의 대항마로 나설 수 있다는 관측에 대해 박 의원은 “김 총리에게 정치적 로망이 있는 것은 사실”이라며 “총리직에서 물러난 뒤 당 대표에 도전할 가능성도 배제할 수 없다는 느낌을 받았다”고 말했다.
다만 그는 “대통령실이 당권 구도를 조정하고 있다고 보지는 않는다”며 확대 해석을 경계했다. 이어 “지금은 국정운영을 돕는 데 집중할 때”라며 “김 총리가 당권 도전 의사를 노골적으로 드러내는 것은 본인에게도 바람직하지 않다”고 덧붙였다.

However, he cautioned against overinterpreting the situation, saying, "I don't believe the Office of the President is manipulating the party leadership structure." He added, "Now is the time to focus on assisting with state affairs," and, "It's not desirable for Prime Minister Kim to openly reveal his intention to run for party leadership."
