【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=주호영 국회부의장(국민의힘·대구 수성구갑)이 첫 회고록 '주호영의 시간, 그리고 선택'을 펴냈다.
출간을 기념하는 북콘서트는 오는 22일 오후 3시, 대구 그랜드호텔 다이너스티홀에서 열린다.
이번 회고록은 판사 출신인 주 부의장이 정계에 입문해 6선 의원과 국회부의장에 오르기까지, 성장 과정과 정치 여정, 그리고 대구 현안에 대한 인식과 소회를 담았다. 책은 총 6부로 구성됐다. 울진 산골소년 시절과 법관 생활, 정치 격랑의 현장에서 겪은 다양한 선택을 시간의 흐름에 따라 풀어냈다.
이 외에도 이명박·박근혜·윤석열 정부를 관통한 의정 경험과 공무원연금 개혁 등 주요 국정 현안의 뒷이야기도 실렸다. 추천사에는 이명박 전 대통령, 김형오 전 국회의장, 성낙인 전 서울대 총장 등이 참여해 정치 원로들의 시각에서 본 주 부의장의 행보를 조명했다.
주 부의장은 서문에서 정현종 시인의 ‘방문객’을 인용하며 “사람이 온다는 것은 그의 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래가 함께 오는 것”이라고 적었다. 또 “출판기념회라는 상징성에 대한 부담과 내 삶이 책으로 남을 가치가 있는지에 대한 두려움 때문에 출간을 오랫동안 망설였다”고 밝혔다.
회고록에는 대구에 대한 고민도 고스란히 담겼다. 주 부의장은 대구가 30년 넘게 지역내총생산 최하위권에 머물러온 현실을 지적하며, 위기를 기회로 바꾸기 위한 정치·사회적 과제를 제시했다. 중앙 정치 경험을 바탕으로 지역이 나아가야 할 방향도 정리했다.
이번 북콘서트는 단순한 출판기념회를 넘어 공개 토론 형식으로도 진행된다. 회고록 내용을 중심으로 정치 및 지역 현안을 주제로 대화가 이어지고, 참석자들과 질의응답 시간도 마련될 예정이다. 행사의 마지막에는 사인회도 진행된다.
주 부의장은 “이번 북콘서트가 정치인의 회고를 넘어, 대구와 대한민국의 미래를 함께 고민하는 자리가 되기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.

Joo Ho-young, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly (People Power Party, Daegu Suseong District A), has published his first memoir, "Joo Ho-young's Time and Choices."
A book concert commemorating the publication will be held at 3:00 PM on the 22nd at the Daegu Grand Hotel Dynasty Hall.
This memoir captures Joo's upbringing, from his entry into politics as a judge to his rise as a six-term lawmaker and Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, to his political journey, as well as his perceptions and reflections on current issues in Daegu. Former President Lee Myung-bak, former National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyung-o, and former Seoul National University President Sung Nak-in participated in the recommendation, shedding light on Vice Speaker Joo's journey from the perspectives of political veterans.
In the preface, Vice Speaker Joo quoted poet Jeong Hyeon-jong's "Visitor," writing, "When a person comes, his past, present, and future come with him." He also stated, "I hesitated to publish for a long time due to the burden of the symbolic nature of the book launch and the fear of whether my life was worthy of being recorded in a book."
The memoir also reflects on his concerns about Daegu. Vice Speaker Joo pointed out that Daegu has remained at the bottom of the GDP rankings for over 30 years and proposed political and social challenges to turn this crisis into an opportunity. Drawing on his experience in central politics, he outlined the direction the region should take.
This book concert will be held in the form of an open discussion, extending beyond a simple book launch. The discussion will focus on political and local issues, focusing on the memoir's content, and will include a Q&A session with attendees. A book signing event will conclude the event.
Vice Chairman Joo stated, "I hope this book concert will go beyond a politician's memoirs and become a forum for us to collectively consider the future of Daegu and the Republic of Korea."
