이재명 대통령이 20일 "그 어떤 어려움도 여러분 용기를 꺾지 못하도록 정부가 든든한 동반·후원자가 되겠다"며 "단단한 이공계 안전망을 구축해 돈 없어 연구를 멈추는 일은 결코 없을 것"이라고 약속했다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 대전 유성구 카이스트(KAIST)에서 열린 학위수여식에 참석 후 축사를 통해 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "인공지능 혁명부터 에너지 대전환까지 지금껏 겪어보지 못한 거대 문명사적 변곡점 위에 서 있다"며 "과학기술이 국가 운명을 결정짓는 글로벌 경쟁 파고 앞에서 여러분 한 분 한 분의 희망·포부에 대한민국 명운이 달려 있다 해도 결코 과언 아니다"고 했다.
또 "여러분이 새 역사 주인공이 될 차례"라며 "과학기술로 대한민국 미래를 설계하고 국민 삶을 풍요롭게 만들 대전환의 길에 앞장서주실 걸로 믿는다"고 했다.
이어 "연구 과정서 흘린 땀방울 하나하나가 성공을 위한 귀중한 자산으로 평가받을 수 있도록 연구 제도를 과감히 혁신할 것"이라며 "카이스트에 처음 신설된 AI 단과대는 인공지능 3대 강국 비전을 이룰 중요 토대가 될 것"이라고 말했다.
더불어 "사회 전반에 인공지능 과실이 고루 퍼지도록 국가적 지원도 아끼지 않을 것이며 R&D 예산 삭감으로 무너진 연구생태계를 복원하는 일에도 온 힘을 쏟고 있다"며 "여러분이 열어갈 빛나는 미래·가능성에 정부는 아낌없이 투자할 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
