The Blue House announced that it will hold an emergency meeting of relevant government ministers at 2:00 PM today to discuss future responses to the US Supreme Court's ruling that reciprocal tariffs are illegal.
In a press release issued this morning, the Blue House announced, "The 'Ministerial Meeting on the Reciprocal Tariff Illegality Ruling' will be held, chaired by Kim Yong-beom, Director of the Office for Policy, and Wi Sung-rak, Director of the National Security Office, with the US ministers of relevant government agencies in attendance." An emergency meeting chaired by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy will also be held separately at 10:00 AM today.
Although the reciprocal tariffs were ruled illegal in this case, the Donald Trump administration is expected to explore countermeasures as it plans to introduce global tariffs under Section 122 of the Trade Act and this does not apply to product-specific tariffs on steel, and aluminum.
