허위 경력으로 유권자 기만… 입후보예정자 A씨 고발

대전광역시선거관리위원회(이하 대전선관위)는 대전시교육감 선거와 관련하여 허위 경력을 유포한 입후보예정자 A씨와 출판기념회에서 저서를 무상으로 뿌린 C씨 등 5명을 경찰과 검찰에 각각 고발했다고 25일 밝혔다.
입후보예정자 A씨는 당선을 목적으로 현수막과 소셜미디어(페이스북) 등에 자신의 경력을 허위로 기재해 공표한 혐의를 받고 있다. 대전선관위는 이를 유권자의 올바른 판단을 방해하는 행위로 보고 지난 24일 대전경찰청에 고발장을 제출했다.
현행 공직선거법에 따르면 후보자에게 유리하도록 경력 등에 관한 허위 사실을 공표할 경우 5년 이하의 징역 또는 3천만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
같은 날 대전지방검찰청에는 기부행위 제한 위반 혐의로 C씨를 비롯한 4명이 고발됐다. C씨는 또 다른 교육감 입후보예정자인 B씨의 출판기념회장에서 자원봉사자 D·E·F씨를 통해 참석자 26명에게 B씨의 저서 74권(약 148만 원 상당)을 무상으로 제공한 혐의를 받는다.
공직선거법상 누구든지 후보자를 위해 기부행위를 하거나 하게 할 수 없으며, 이를 어길 시 5년 이하의 징역 또는 1천만 원 이하의 벌금을 받게 된다.
대전선관위 관계자는 "허위사실 공표와 기부행위는 선거질서를 심각하게 훼손하고 선거 결과에 지대한 영향을 미치는 중대 범죄"라고 규정했다. 이어 "앞으로도 선거의 공정성을 해치는 위반 행위에 대해서는 무관용 원칙에 따라 엄정하게 대응할 방침"이라고 강조했다.
