거제~가덕도신공항 국가철도망 구축 계획 반영 촉구

[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 변광용 거제시장이 26일 홍지선 국토부 제2차관을 만나 거제~가덕도신공항 연결철도의 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획 반영을 촉구하는 서명부를 전달했다.

지난 6일 거제에서 열린 착공식을 시작으로 남부내륙철도 건설이 본격화되면서 거제시가 U자형 광역교통망 완성을 위한 후속 행보에 속도를 내고있다.

변 시장은 이날 물류비용 절감과 산업 간 교류 강화를 위한 거제~통영 고속도로 조기 착공, 가덕신공항 개항에 대비한 거가대로 고속국도 승격에 대해서도 적극 건의했다.

변 시장은 "수도권 일극 체제를 넘어 '5극 3특'국가균형발전 전략을 실현하기 위해서는 U자형 광역교통망 완성이 필수적"이라며 "정부와 관계부처의 적극적인 결단을 강력히 요청한다"고 밝혔다.

한편 거제~가덕도신공항 연결철도는 동·서·남해안을 잇는 U자형 고속철도망의 핵심축이자, 서부경남 전체로 신공항 개항 효과를 확대하는 성장 엔진이 될 것으로 전망된다.
