브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 미국의 군수물자 비축 수준을 강조하며 대(對)이란 전쟁 장기화 가능성에 대한 우려를 일축했다.
트럼프 대통령은 2일(현지 시간) 자신이 운영하는 소셜미디어 Truth Social에 글을 올려 “미국은 중급·중상급 수준의 무기들을 사실상 무제한으로 보유하고 있다”며 “이 물자들만으로도 전쟁을 ‘영원히(forever)’ 매우 성공적으로 수행할 수 있다”고 밝혔다.
그는 미국의 군수물자 비축량이 역사상 어느 때보다 많고 우수하다고 강조하며 “이 무기들은 다른 나라들의 최고급 무기보다 뛰어나다”고 주장했다.
다만 “최고급 무기는 상당한 물량을 보유하고 있지만 아직 원하는 수준에는 이르지 못했고, 추가적인 고급 무기들은 해외 여러 지역에 보관돼 있다”고 덧붙였다.
트럼프 대통령은 전임 행정부의 우크라이나 무기 지원에 대해 비판하기도 했다.
그는 “조 바이든은 재임 시기 우리 자금을 모두 우크라이나의 ‘P.T. 바넘’에게 퍼줬다”며 수천억 달러 규모의 최고급 무기를 무상 지원하면서 이를 보충하려는 노력조차 하지 않았다고 했다. 여기서 언급한 P.T. 바넘은 영화 The Greatest Showman의 실제 모델인 19세기 서커스 제작자로, 트럼프 대통령이 볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령을 비판할 때 비유적으로 사용해온 표현이다.

미국 월스트리트저널은 이날 이란이 대량 생산 가능한 저가 드론을 대거 비축하고 있어 장기전을 염두에 둔 전략을 펼칠 수 있다고 보도했다. 또한 미국이 패트리엇과 THAAD(고고도미사일방어체계) 미사일 탄약 부족 상황에 직면해 있다는 점을 언급하며 이란이 저렴한 드론으로 계속 공격하면, 미국 입장에선 비싼 미사일로 방어해야 하기 때문에 지속적으로 손실이 커질 수 있음을 시사했다.

President Trump: "Protracted War with Iran? The US Has Enough Weapons to Fight Forever"
US President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns about a protracted war with Iran, emphasizing the size of the US military's stockpile.

He claimed that Joe Biden, during his presidency, "has funneled all our funds to Ukraine's 'P.T.
