기술 벤처의 최전선에서 혁신을 이끌던 한 엔지니어가 펜을 들었다.
20년 넘게 ICT(정보통신기술) 현장을 누비던 사업가가 이제 문학의 언어로 ‘부조리의 심장’을 겨눈다.
지난 2월 28일 전북 고창 미당시문학관에서 열린 〈포스트모던〉 2026 신춘문예 시상식에서 중편소설 부문 당선작〈청구서>의 주인공으로 이름을 올린 이는 이로운 작가(본명 이형구)다.
그는 대한민국 대학생 벤처창업경진대회 금상 수상자이자, 디지털TV·IPTV 기술을 주도했던 1세대 벤처 창업가 출신이다.
컴퓨터공학과 전자공학을 전공하고 현대전자를 거쳐 벤처기업을 창업한 그는, 오랜 기간 기술과 정책 현장을 오갔다. 하지만 그 속에서 그가 마주한 것은 시스템의 이면에서 조용히 무너지는 사람들의 현실이었다.
“개발자에서 전략가로, 다시 공공의 현장으로 옮기며 제도의 틈새에서 소리 없이 무너지는 이들을 봤습니다. 부조리 앞에서 묵묵히 자리를 지키던 그들의 단단한 등이 문장이 되어 터져 나왔습니다.”
이로운 작가의 첫 소설〈청구서〉는 병원비 창구 앞, 흔들리는 손으로 ‘청구서’를 부여잡은 한 개인의 이야기에서 출발한다. 작가는 “종이 한 장이 떨어질까 두 손으로 꼭 붙잡던 그 중압감을 잊을 수 없었다”며 작품의 모티프를 떠올렸다.

그의 소설은 자본의 논리와 제도의 모순을 날카롭게 파헤친다. 하지만 그것은 차가운 고발이 아니다. 작가는 “세상을 직접 바꾸지는 못하더라도, 바뀌어야 한다고 외치는 것 자체가 문학의 존재 이유”라고 말한다.
이로운 작가의 시선은 늘 사람에게 닿아 있다. 그는 “우리가 무너지는 순간은 고통이 클 때가 아니라, 그 고통을 아무에게도 꺼내지 못할 때”라며 “아픔을 드러내는 것이 무너지지 않기 위한 첫 번째 용기”라고 전한다.
20년 넘게 공공 분야의 책임 현장에 있었던 그는, 그 시간이 결국 인간을 향한 따뜻한 시선의 뿌리가 되었다고 회상한다.
현재 (유)노아벤처스 대표이사이자 (사)도시공동체본부 상임대표로 활동 중인 그는 여전히 기술과 정책, 사람을 잇는 아날로그적 연결자다. 이제는 ‘이로운’이라는 필명으로, 엔지니어의 정밀함과 전략가의 거시적 통찰을 문학적 언어로 변환해내고 있다.
“현장이 내게 건넨 오래된 숙제를 이제 문장으로, ‘청구서’로 내밀었다”는 그의 말처럼, 이로운 작가의 문학은 공공의 현장에서 태어나 사람과 제도의 틈새를 비추는 거울이 되고 있다.

Lee Ro-un (real name Lee Hyeong-gu) was named the winner of the mid-length novel category at the Postmodern 2026 Spring Literary Contest held at the Midang City Literature Museum in Gochang, North Jeolla Province, on February 28th.
He is a first-generation venture entrepreneur who won the gold prize at the Korea University Venture Startup Competition and pioneered digital TV and IPTV technologies.
He majored in computer science and electronic engineering, worked at Hyundai Electronics, and later founded a venture company. He has spent a long time working in technology and policy. However, what he encountered was the reality of people quietly collapsing behind the scenes of the system.
"From developer to strategist, then back into the public sphere, I witnessed those who silently crumble within the cracks of the system. Their unwavering strength, silently standing firm in the face of absurdity, burst forth in the form of sentences."
Lee Ro-un's first novel, "Bill," begins with the story of an individual clutching a "bill" with trembling hands at a hospital bill counter. The author evoked the motif of the work, saying, "I couldn't forget the pressure of holding the paper tightly with both hands, fearing it might fall."
His novel sharply exposes the logic of capital and the contradictions of institutions. However, it is not a cold accusation. The author states, "Even if we cannot directly change the world, the very cry for change is the very reason literature exists."
Lee Ro-un's gaze is always focused on people. He states, "The moment we crumble is not when our pain is great, but when we cannot share that pain with anyone. Revealing our pain is the first step toward not collapsing."
Having spent over 20 years in the public sector, he recalls that time ultimately formed the foundation of his compassionate perspective on humanity.
Currently serving as CEO of Noah Ventures and Executive Director of the Urban Community Headquarters, he remains an analog connector, bridging technology, policy, and people. Now, under the pen name "Lee Ro-un," he translates the precision of an engineer and the macroscopic insight of a strategist into literary language.
