충남 논산시가 탑정호 일대를 머물며 즐기는 체류형 관광지로 탈바꿈시키기 위한 본격적인 행보에 나섰다.
이를 위해 논산시는 6일 탑정호 출렁다리 남문광장에서 ‘탑정호 주민편의(수상레저)휴게시설 조성사업’ 기공식을 갖고, 수상레저 관광거점 조성사업의 첫 삽을 떴다.
이날 행사에는 백성현 시장을 비롯해 조용훈 시의회의장, 도·시의원, 농어촌공사와 금강유역환경청 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석해 지역 관광의 새로운 도약을 다짐했다.
이번 사업은 총 90억 원이 투입돼 탑정호 출렁다리 주변에 잔디광장, 소규모 거리공연 무대, 포토존, 먹거리 트럭존 등 시민과 관광객이 함께 누릴 수 있는 수변광장과 보트 계류시설을 조성하는 내용이다.
2022년부터 설계용역과 각종 인허가 절차를 마쳤으며, 오는 2027년 9월 완공을 목표로 본격 공사에 들어간다.

새로 마련될 계류장은 관광객이 직접 보트를 띄워 탑정호의 풍경을 수상에서 감상할 수 있도록 해, 기존의 출렁다리·음악분수·수변데크 등과 함께 시너지 효과를 낼 전망이다. 또한 거리공연과 푸드트럭 운영 공간이 더해져 휴식과 문화가 공존하는 복합형 여가공간으로 변모할 예정이다.
논산시는 이번 조성사업이 관광객 체류시간을 늘리고 인근 상권 소비를 촉진하는 ‘셈법 있는 관광개발’이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다. 특히 2022년 규제 완화 이후 추진 중인 복합문화휴양단지, 자연문화예술촌 사업과 연계해 탑정호 일대를 논산 관광의 핵심축으로 키우겠다는 구상이다.
