경기도교육청이 전국 최초로 행동중재 특화 기능을 갖춘 특수교육 전담 기관을 개원하며 장애 학생 지원 체계 강화에 나섰다.
경기도교육청은 경기 특수교육의 종합 지원 거점 기관인 ‘경기도교육청특수교육원’을 설립하고 6일 개원식을 열었다고 밝혔다.
개원식에는 임태희 경기도교육감을 비롯해 김승원 국회의원, 경기도의회 안광률 교육기획위원회 위원장, 이애형 교육행정위원회 위원장, 특수학교 교장과 교사, 학부모, 유관기관 관계자 등 30여 명이 참석했다.
지난 1일 공식 개원한 경기도교육청특수교육원은 시·도교육청 가운데 처음으로 행동중재 지원 기능을 특화한 기관이다. 장애 학생들의 학교생활 적응을 돕고 장기적으로는 진로·직업 교육을 통해 자립 기반을 지원하는 특수교육 거점 기관 역할을 맡는다.
경기도교육청은 2024년 설립 기초연구를 시작으로 2025년 경기도의회 본회의 의결을 거쳐 설치 근거를 마련하는 등 단계적인 준비 과정을 거쳐 특수교육원을 설립했다.
특수교육원은 옛 경기도교육연구원 건물을 활용해 2027년 12월까지 리모델링을 진행하며, 이후 2028년 1월부터 진로·직업 교육 프로그램을 본격 운영할 계획이다.
시설은 학생 지원과 교육 기능을 중심으로 구성된다. A동에는 웰컴라운지와 도서관, 행동중재 지원 공간, 원격수업 스튜디오, 경기진학정보센터가 들어서며, B동에는 스마트 미래교실과 가상체육공간, 스마트 오피스 등이 조성된다.
임태희 경기도교육감은 “특수교육원을 통해 장애 학생들이 자신의 가능성을 펼치고 사회 구성원으로 성장하는 기반이 마련되길 기대한다”며 “특수교육 현장의 학생과 학부모, 교직원 모두에게 희망이 되는 기관이 되도록 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has opened the nation's first specialized special education center with specialized behavioral intervention capabilities, strengthening its support system for students with disabilities.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced the establishment of the "Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Special Education Center," a comprehensive support center for special education in Gyeonggi Province, and held an opening ceremony on the 6th.

Building B will feature a smart future classroom, virtual sports space, and smart offices.
Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education Lim Tae-hee stated, "I hope the Special Education Center will provide a foundation for students with disabilities to realize their potential and grow into contributing members of society.
