이재명 대통령이 11일 한·가나 정상회담에서 "양국 국민 모두 체감할 수 있는 실질 협력 성과가 함께 창출되길 기대하며 여러 방면에서 더욱 단단해지길 기대한다"고 말했다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 청와대 본관에서 존 드라마니 마하마 가나 대통령과 정상회담을 갖고 "한·가나는 내년이면 수교 50주년을 맞이하는 아주 오랜 친구"라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "가나는 해적 위협이 상존하는 기니만에서 대한민국 국민들 안전을 지키는 데 그동안 적극 협조해준 참 고마운 나라"라며 "1977년 수교 이래 양국 교역량은 약 38배 증가했고, 현재 많은 한국 기업들이 가나에서 제조업·농수산 분야를 중심으로 활발하게 활동 중"이라고 했다.
또 "최근 매우 큰 규모 벼 재배단지를 함께 조성해 내년부터 한국산 벼 종자를 생산 예정"이라며 "양국은 해양 안보·교역·농업 등 다양한 분야서 괄목할 만한 협력 결실을 맺고 있다"고 했다.
이어 "지리적으로 멀리 떨어져 있지만 양국 국민들이 문화를 통해 함께 웃고 공감할 수 있다는 사실에 매우 큰 기쁨·감동을 느낀다"며 "양국 간 우정·호혜적 협력 관계가 더욱 발전하게 되길 기대한다"고 덧붙였다.
마하마 대통령은 “한국이 제공한 개량된 쌀 종자를 활용해 생산 향상에 집중하려 하며 가나에서 쌀은 주식이 됐다”며 “가나는 천연 자원·인적 자원이 풍부하고 한국은 기술·혁신이 있는데 양국 장점이 결합했을 때 윈 윈 파트너십 결과를 도출할 수 있을 거라 생각한다”고 했다.
또 “가나는 핵심 광물 분야 잠재성이 매우 높다”며 “한국은 기술을 보유하고 있는 국가여서 가치 사슬에서 한층 증진된 결과를 도출할 수 있길 바란다”고 덧붙였다.
