선린대학교는 물리치료학과가 지난 11일 교육부로부터 ‘전문대학 4년제 물리치료사 양성학과’로 지정받았다고 밝혔다.
이번 지정으로 선린대학교 물리치료학과는 전국 전문대학 가운데 처음이자 경북 지역에서 유일하게 교육부 인증을 받은 4년제 물리치료사 양성학과로 운영된다. 대학 측은 이번 지정을 통해 기존 임상 중심 교육을 넘어 학술 연구와 글로벌 진출을 위한 교육 기반을 강화할 수 있게 됐다고 설명했다.
선린대학교 물리치료학과는 다양한 진출 성과를 통해 경쟁력을 보여주고 있다. 졸업생들은 국내 대형 병원 취업뿐 아니라 자격 취득이 까다로운 호주 물리치료사 면허를 취득해 해외 의료 현장에서 활동하고 있으며, 학술 분야에서도 성과를 이어가고 있다. 일부 졸업생은 서울대학교와 대구경북과학기술원(DIGIST)에서 박사학위를 취득하고 연구 활동을 이어가고 있으며, 포항공과대학교(POSTECH) 연구원으로 임용되는 등 융합 연구 분야에서도 활약하고 있다.
대학은 새롭게 운영되는 4년제 교육과정을 통해 기초의학과 전문 치료 방법론은 물론 최신 연구 방법론까지 포함한 심화 교육과정을 제공할 계획이다. 또한 전공 지식을 활용한 IT·헬스케어 산업 연계 교육과 전공 맞춤형 취업 지원 프로그램을 통해 학생들의 진로 선택 폭을 넓힌다는 방침이다.
이를 통해 학생들은 졸업 후 임상 현장에 바로 투입될 수 있는 실무 능력을 갖추는 것은 물론, 대학원 진학과 연구소 취업, 신기술 창업 등 다양한 진로로 진출할 수 있는 기반을 마련하게 될 것으로 기대된다.
국중석 선린대학교 물리치료학과장은 “교육부 인증 전문대학 4년제 물리치료사 양성학과 지정을 계기로 학생들이 임상뿐 아니라 해외 취업, 대학원 진학, 연구소 진출, 창업 등 다양한 분야에서 꿈을 펼칠 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”며 “전국 최초, 경북 유일이라는 자부심을 바탕으로 국내 물리치료 교육을 선도해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

The university plans to offer an in-depth curriculum through its newly launched four-year program, encompassing not only basic medical science and specialized treatment methods, but also cutting-edge research methodologies. Kook Joong-seok, head of the Department of Physical Therapy at Sunlin University, said, “With the Ministry of Education’s designation of our four-year physical therapy training program as a vocational college, we will actively support students so that they can pursue their dreams in various fields, such as not only clinical work but also overseas employment, graduate school advancement, research institute advancement, and entrepreneurship.” He added, “Based on the pride of being the first in the nation and the only one in Gyeongbuk, we will continue to lead the domestic physical therapy education.”
