이날 행사는 교육부 장관과 경상남도지사 등 정·관계 주요 인사가 집결한 가운데 「통합대학 이행협약」을 체결하며 추진 동력을 확보했다. 대학 앞 ‘탁연지’에서 열린 야외 세리머니는 서로 다른 색깔을 가진 4개의 캠퍼스가 하나의 공동체로 도약함을 상징적으로 보여주었다.
출범식에 앞서 진행된 최교진 교육부 장관과 박민원 총장의 창원 LG전자 스마트파크 방문은 통합대학이 나아갈 방향을 명확히 제시했다.
