3월 17일, 오세훈이 드디어 국민의힘 서울시장 공천을, 신청했다. 당을 떠나지 않겠다고 했다. 책임을 피하지 않겠다고 했다. 서울을 지키겠다고 했다. 지도부는 그의 요구를 끝내 수용하지 않았다. 그러나 그는 물러서지 않았다. 조건이 아니라 책임을 택했다. 정치는 이렇게 하는 것이다.

이것이 오늘 국민의힘의 수준이다. 서울은 단순한 지방선거가 아니다. 보수 정치의 존립을 가르는 전장이다. 서울을 잃으면 전국 정당의 지위는 흔들린다. 그 핵심 인물을 압박의 대상으로 삼은 것부터가 잘못이었다. 지도부는 전략을 제시하지 못했다. 대신 조직의 힘으로 눌렀다. 영향력 있는 인물을 관리 대상으로 취급했다. 이는 지도력이 아니라 권력의 오용이다.
지금 당에는 방향이 없다. 판단은 지연되고, 결정은 미뤄진다. 내부 권력에 기대어 시간을 버는 모습만 반복된다. 지도자는 판단으로 말한다. 그러나 지금 지도부는 침묵으로 버틴다. 침묵은 전략이 아니라 무능의 표현이다. 판사 출신 대표는 법리에는 강하다. 그러나 정치는 판결이 아니다. 방향을 제시해야 한다. 당료 출신 공관위원장은 실무에는 능하다. 그러나 비전은 부족하다. 그래서 이런 정치는 결국 비전 부재의 관리형 정치로 귀결된다.
