충남 민주·진보 교육감 추진위원회는 17일 제9회 전국동시지방선거 충남교육감 선거에서 이병도 전 충남교육청 교육국장을 민주·진보 진영 단일 후보로 선정했다고 밝혔다.
44개 정책질의서에 유일하게 성실히 답변한 점을 높이 평가하며, 30년 교사 경력과 교육행정 경험을 바탕으로 한 적임자라고 강조했다.
추진위는 급변하는 교육 환경에서 학생의 전인적 성장, 공공성 강화, 현장 중심 정책이 필요하다며 5개 영역(교육공공성·교사기본권, 학교비정규직 노동권, 학부모·교육복지·학교자치, 학생인권·민주시민교육, 생태·기후위기·공동체·마을교육) 질의서를 모든 후보에게 발송했다.
그러나 이병도 후보 외에는 응답이 없자, 그의 답변을 근거로 단일화를 결정했다.
이병도 후보는 교사기본권 보호와 민주적 학교 공동체 조성, 학생인권 보장과 참여 확대, 학부모 성장 지원 및 교육복지 예산 증액, 비정규직 노동권 강화, 이주민·마을·생태교육 확대 등을 약속했다.
추진위는 "특권·경쟁·입시 중심 교육을 넘어 모두의 성장을 돕는 혁신 교육감"이라며 충남도민의 지지를 호소했다.

The Chungnam Democratic & Progressive Superintendent Promotion Committee announced on the 17th that it has selected Lee Byeong-do, former Director of the Education Bureau at the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education, as the unified candidate for the democratic and progressive camp in the 9th nationwide simultaneous local elections for the Chungnam Superintendent of Education.

They sent questionnaires covering five areas (educational public service and basic rights for teachers; labor rights for non-regular school workers; parental rights, educational welfare, and school autonomy; student human rights and democratic citizenship education; and ecology, climate crisis, community, and village education) to all candidates.
However, as there were no responses other than from Candidate Lee Byeong-do, they decided on unification based on his answers.
Candidate Lee Byung-do pledged to protect the basic rights of teachers, foster democratic school communities, guarantee student human rights and expand participation, support parental growth and increase the budget for educational welfare, strengthen the labor rights of non-regular workers, and expand education for immigrants, villages, and ecology.
The steering committee appealed for the support of South Chungcheong Province residents, calling him "an innovative superintendent who helps everyone grow, moving beyond education centered on privilege, competition, and entrance exams."
