이재명 대통령이 최근 중동 사태 관련해 재외 국민 대피를 지원해준 일본·카타르·사우디 등 해외 정상들에게 감사 서한을 보냈다고 청와대가 18일 전했다.
강유정 대변인은 이날 오전 서면 브리핑에서 "이 대통령이 일본 총리·카타르 국왕·사우디 왕세자에게 감사 서한을 발송했다"며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "지난 11일 사우디아라비아 리야드에서 한국민 11명·외국인 배우자 1명과 지난 13일 오만 무스카트에서 한국민 4명이 일본 측 전세기에 탑승해 일본으로 이동했다"고 밝혔다.
또 "이 대통령은 다카이치 사나에 일본 총리에게 깊은 감사를 표하며 한국 군 수송기를 통해 일본 국민이 한국민과 함께 이동한 점을 뜻깊게 평가했다"며 "2024년 9월 체결된 제3국 내 재외국민 보호 협력 양해각서를 바탕으로 이번 대피 과정서 양국 외교 당국·현지 공관 간 긴밀한 공조가 이뤄진 점을 높이 평가했다"고 전했다.
이어 "이 대통령은 지난 9일 도하발 긴급 항공편을 통해 한국민 322명이 인천에 안전 귀국할 수 있도록 지원한 타밈 빈 하마드 알 싸니 카타르 국왕에게 감사 서한을 보냈다"며 "카타르의 이번 지원이 양국 간 포괄적 전략 동반자 관계를 보여주는 사례라며 향후 협력 확대를 위한 논의가 지속되길 기대한다고 밝혔다"고 전했다.
더불어 "이 대통령은 한국 군 수송기가 14일 리야드를 출발해 한국민 204명을 태우고 한국에 무사히 도착할 수 있도록 협조해준 모하메드 빈 살만 사우디아라비아 왕세자에게 감사 뜻을 전했다"고 덧붙였다.
