추 의원은 이날 5주년을 맞은 의용소방대의 날을 축하하고 지역사회 곳곳에서 시민의 생명과 안전을 위해 뛰어온 의용소방대원들에 감사를 전했다.
추 의원은 또 “시민의 안전을 최우선 가치로 삼고, 의용소방대가 자긍심을 가지고 활동할 수 있도록 의용소방대원의 처우 개선을 위해 힘을 보태겠다”며 “시민이 안전하고, 일상이 편안한 대구를 만드는 일에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 의용소방대의 날은 의용소방대의 숭고한 봉사와 희생정신을 알리고 그 업적을 기리기 위해 매년 3월 19일 지정되었으며, 올해 기념식은 공식 기념일보다 하루 앞서 열렸다.
