지난 2022년 12월, 서울에서 하나의 상징이 퇴출됐다. 교통방송을 무대로 정치적 영향력을 행사해 온 김어준이 물러난 것이었다. 이것은 단순한 변화가 아니었다. 10여 년간 대한민국 정치를 뒤틀어 온 감정 동원형 정치의 중심축이 흔들리기 시작했다는 징후(徵候)였다.

2026년 3월, 김어준은 권부(청와대+이재명)과의 전면전을, 사실상 시작했다. 대한민국 정치에는 보이지 않는 권력이 있었다. 제도권 밖에 있으면서도 제도권을 움직여 온 힘, 공식 권력은 아니지만 실제 권력에 더 가까웠던 영향력이다. 그 중심 가운데 김어준도 한 자리를 차지했었다. 그는 해왔던 일이 방송인이었지만. 달리 보는 시각도 있다. 그는 정치에 영향력을 행사해 온 하나의 숨은 권력(?)이었다. 사실(事實) 전달에 미흡한 것도 있었다. 사건의 의미를 먼저 규정하고, 논리가 아니라 분노와 공포를 동원해, 대중을 움직였던 부분도 눈에 띠였다. 그렇게 만들어진 감정은 여론이 되었고, 그 여론은 정치 권력으로 전환되기도 했다. 이 방식은 특정 사건에 국한되지 않았다. 반복되었고, 축적되었고, 결국 하나의 정치 문법이 됐다. 미선·효순 사건, 광우병 사태, 세월호, 박근혜 탄핵까지—사건의 성격과 맥락은 달랐지만 작동 방식은 같았다. 감정을 극대화하고, 그 감정을 정치적 에너지로 전환하는 구조였다. 이 과정에서 사실은 뒤로 밀렸고, 검증은 속도를 따라가지 못했다.
문제는 이것이 일회성(一回性)이 아니었다는 점이다. 이 방식은 상당 부분 성공했다. 그리하여 정치 전반으로 확산됐다. 이제는 진영조차 구분되지 않는다. 유튜브 정치, 왜곡된 여론조사, 확인되지 않은 정보가 결합되면서 사실보다 속도가, 검증보다 자극이 지배하는 구조가 굳어졌다. 이 구조를 방치하면 어떤 권력도 오래가지 못한다. 감정으로 만든 권력은 결국 감정으로 무너진다.
지금의 위기는 정치의 위기가 아니다. 공론장의 붕괴다.
오세훈 서울시장은 이 흐름에 처음으로 제동을 걸었다. 공영 매체를 특정 정치 서사의 도구로 쓰는 구조를 끊어낸 것이었다. 이것은 개인 문제가 아니라, 비정상적 정치 방식 자체를 바로잡기 위한 첫 단추였다.
이제 남은 것은 이재명의 선택이다.
지금 이재명 대통령은 김어준으로 상징되는 정치 방식과 충돌하고 있다. 이것을 단순한 갈등으로 보면 착각(錯覺)일 수 있다. 이것은 권력 다툼이 아니라, 낡은 정치 방식과 새로운 권력 질서 사이의 충돌이다.
