중동 지역의 긴장 고조에 따른 유가 상승과 인플레이션 우려가 금리 결정의 핵심 변수로 작용한 것으로 보인다.
연준은 18일(현지시간) 연방공개시장위원회(FOMC) 정례회의를 마치고 기준금리를 현행 3.50~3.75%로 유지한다고 발표했다. 지난 1월에 이은 2회 연속 동결이다.
이번 결정은 11대 1의 찬성으로 통과됐으며, 스티븐 마이런 이사만이 0.25%p 인하를 주장하며 소수의견을 냈다.
이에 따라 한국과의 금리 격차는 상단 기준 1.25%p를 유지했다.
연준은 성명에서 “중동 상황의 전개가 미국 경제에 미치는 영향이 불확실하다”는 문구를 새롭게 추가하며, 지정학적 리스크를 정면으로 거론했다.
올해 개인소비지출(PCE) 물가상승률 전망치는 기존 2.4%에서 2.7%로 상향 조정했다.
