이 후보는 24일 경상북도교육청 앞에서 기자회견을 열고 “교복 강제 관행을 개선하고 학생 선택권을 보장하겠다”며 교복 자율화 정책을 공식 발표했다.
그는 “학령인구 감소와 지역소멸, 교육격차 심화 등으로 위기에 놓인 경북교육을 바로 세우기 위해 22개 시·군을 직접 방문해 현장의 목소리를 듣고 공약과 대안을 마련하겠다”고 밝혔다.
이날 이 후보는 운동화와 점퍼 차림으로 기자회견에 나서며 “경북교육에도 새로운 변화의 바람이 필요하다”며 “민주진보 교육감 후보로서 변화의 마중물이 되겠다”고 강조했다.
핵심 공약인 교복 자율화와 관련해 이 후보는 “학생들의 의견을 반영해 교복 착용 여부를 자율 선택으로 전환하겠다”며 “교복을 유지하는 학교와 선택으로 전환하는 학교 모두에서 학부모 부담이 증가하지 않도록 하겠다”고 설명했다.
이어 “교복 가격의 투명성을 강화하고 공동구매 확대, 지원체계 정비, 교복비 지원 등 실질적인 대책을 병행하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
한편 최근 정부 차원에서도 교복 가격 적정성과 불공정 거래에 대한 점검이 강화되고 있다. 이재명 대통령은 지난 2월 수석보좌관회의에서 교복 가격 담합 등 불공정 거래에 대한 철저한 감시를 지시했으며, 공정거래위원회는 교복 입찰 담합에 관여한 업체들에 대해 과징금을 부과하는 등 후속 조치를 진행 중이다.
이용기 후보는 31년간 중·고교 교사로 근무한 교육 현장 출신으로, 전국교직원노동조합 경북지부장과 전국교육자치혁신연대 공동대표 등을 역임했다. 지난해 12월에는 시민단체가 구성한 ‘경북교육희망 2026’ 경선에서 민주진보 단일후보로 선출됐다.

Candidate Lee Yong-ki is a veteran of the education field, having worked as a middle and high school teacher for 31 years. He has served as the head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union and as a co-representative of the National Alliance for Educational Autonomy Innovation.
