브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 고(故) 조석래 효성그룹 명예회장의 2주기 추모식이 27일 조용하게 치러졌다.
추모식은 이날 오전 8시30분 서울 마포 효성 본사 강당에서 40여 분간 진행됐다. 장남 조현준 효성 회장, 삼남 조현상 HS효성 부회장 등 유가족과 임직원, 내빈 등이 추모식에 참석했다.
고인에 대한 묵념으로 시작된 추모식은 약력 소개, 추모사 낭독, 고인의 생전 모습이 담긴 영상 상영, 헌화 등의 순서로 이어졌다.
2024년 3월 29일 89세의 일기로 별세한 조석래 명예회장은 1935년 경상남도 함안군 군북면에서 조홍제 효성 창업주와 하정옥 여사의 장남으로 태어났다. 경기고등학교와 일본 히비야고등학교를 거쳐 일본 와세다대학교 이공학부를 졸업하고 미국 일리노이공과대학교 대학원에서 화공학 석사 학위를 받았다. 그는 당초 대학 교수를 꿈꾸며 1966년 박사 과정을 준비하던 중 부친으로부터 연락을 받고 귀국, 기업인의 삶을 시작했다.
효성의 모태인 동양나이론 울산공장 건설에 주도적인 역할을 한 조 명예회장은 1970년 동양나이론 대표이사 사장을 시작으로 동양폴리에스터, 효성물산, 효성중공업 등 다양한 사업을 진두지휘하며 한국 제조업 발전의 초석을 다졌다.
