[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘 부산시장 경선에 나선 주진우 후보가 더불어민주당 전재수 의원을 공직선거법상 허위사실공표 혐의로 고발했다.
주 후보는 27일 오후 부산시의회에서 기자회견을 열고, 전 의원이 그간 통일교 관련 금품 수수 의혹에 대해 거짓말로 일관하며 부산시민을 기만했다고 주장했다. 주 후보는 회견 직후 부산경찰청과 합동수사본부에 형사 고발장을 제출했다.
"785만 원 시계와 현금 수수"… 구체적 정황 제시
주 후보는 이날 회견에서 전 의원이 "통일교로부터 어떤 금품도 받은 사실이 없다"고 수차례 공언해온 점을 정면으로 반박했다.
그는 일부 언론 보도를 인용해 "전 의원이 '785만 원 상당의 까르띠에 시계와 현금 2,000만 원을 수수한 것은 사실'로 드러났다"고 밝혔다. 특히 해당 사안이 3,000만 원 이하라는 이유로 공소시효가 도과됐다는 방향으로 결론지어지는 기류에 대해 "국민을 상대로 장난하는 것이냐"며 강하게 비판했다.
'불가리 시계' 추가 의혹… "사건 쪼개기 수법 안 돼"
주 후보는 수사기관을 향해서도 날선 비판을 쏟아냈다. 그는 기존에 알려진 까르띠에 시계 외에도 '불가리 시계'와 관련한 구체적인 진술이 존재함을 강조하며, 이를 철저히 규명해야 한다고 촉구했다.
특히 "시효에 맞춰 면죄부를 줄 궁리만 하지 말고 즉각 추가 수사에 착수해야 한다"며, 소위 '사건 쪼개기' 수법으로 수사를 축소하려는 시도를 경계했다.

"천정궁 방문 부인도 거짓"… 유권자 기만 행위 강조
금품 수수 여부와 더불어 과거 전 의원의 발언도 도마 위에 올랐다. 주 후보는 전 의원이 "천정궁을 방문한 적이 없다", "금품을 단 한 번도 받은 적 없다"고 말한 것 자체가 당선을 목적으로 유권자를 속인 명백한 허위사실 공표라고 지적했다.
그러면서 주 후보는 "부산의 혁신은 깨끗한 손에 맡겨야 한다"고 강조했다. 지역 정가에서는 이번 고발이 부산시장 경선 판도에 미칠 파장에 촉각을 곤두세우는 모양새다.

Joo Jin-woo, a candidate in the People Power Party’s Busan mayoral primary, has filed a complaint against Democratic Party lawmaker Jeon Jae-soo, accusing him of spreading false information under the Public Official Election Act.
At a press conference held at the Busan City Council on March 27, Joo claimed that Jeon had repeatedly lied to the public about allegations of receiving money and gifts from the Unification Church, thereby deceiving Busan citizens. Immediately after the briefing, Joo submitted a formal complaint to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency and the joint investigation unit.
“7.85 Million-Won Watch and 20 Million Won in Cash”
Referring to media reports, Joo alleged that Jeon had indeed received a Cartier watch worth about 7.85 million won and 20 million won in cash from the Unification Church. He criticized the prevailing view that the case was exempt from prosecution due to the statute of limitations for amounts under 30 million won. “Are they trying to play games with the public?” he said, condemning what he called an attempt to trivialize the matter.
Additional ‘Bulgari Watch’ Suspicion
Joo also pressed the investigative authorities to expand their inquiry, noting testimony suggesting that Jeon might have received not only the Cartier watch but also a Bulgari watch. He warned investigators not to “split the case” into smaller incidents to avoid proper scrutiny, urging them to “launch a full and immediate investigation rather than look for ways to hand out indulgences timed to the statute of limitations.”
Accusations of Misleading Voters
In addition to the bribery allegations, Joo pointed to Jeon’s past statements denying any visits to the Unification Church’s Cheon Jeong Gung headquarters and rejecting claims of receiving any money or gifts. Joo argued that such denials were deliberate attempts to mislead voters and therefore constituted a violation of election law.
He concluded his remarks by saying, “The future of Busan’s transformation must be entrusted to clean hands.” Political observers are watching closely to see how this complaint might reshape the dynamics of the Busan mayoral race.
