이재명 대통령이 31일 방한한 미 하원의원들을 만나 "동북아시아 평화·안정에 트럼프 대통령 포함 미 정부가 큰 역할을 해줄 걸로 기대하고 있다"고 했다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 청와대에서 미 초당적 연구 모임 '코리아 스터디 그룹' 소속 질 토쿠다(민주·하와이)·마크 포칸(민주·위스콘신)·아미 베라(민주·캘리포니아)·라이언 징키(공화·몬태나)·메리 게이 스캔론(민주·펜실베이니아)·팻 해리건 의원(공화·노스캐롤라이나) 등 6명을 접견한 자리에서 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "전 세계가 지금 매우 복잡하고 어려운 상황인데 한국에 관심 가져줘 국민들을 대표해 감사 말씀을 드린다"며 "미 의회서 한국 문제에 관심 갖고 특별히 연구 활동을 해주신 점을 특별히 높이 평가하며 한·미 관계 발전에도 큰 도움이 될 걸로 생각한다"고 했다.
