이재명 대통령이 2일 미 상원의원단을 접견하고 "군사비 증액뿐 아닌 전시작전권 환수를 통해 미 부담을 줄이고 한반도 인근에선 한국 자체적으로 동북아 안전·평화를 지켜야 한다는 생각"이라고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오후 청와대 본관에서 진 섀힌(민주당·뉴햄프셔)·톰 틸리스(공화당·노스캐롤라이나)·재키 로젠(민주당·네바다)·존 커티스 상원의원(공화당·유타), 등 미 상원의원들을 만나 "한·미 관계에 대한 조언을 듣고, 특히 중동 사태에 대한 시각·판단을 듣고 싶다"며 이같이 말했다.
